In addition to changes in rod angularity and piston dwell time, rod length can also affect crankcase volume. Case volume is added if a spacer plate is used.

True, I think the link I sent was directed towards 4 strokes. I'm not sure how the volume effects that engine. The few things I've read about 2 stroke case volume seems to indicate that less is better on most engines if the quest is for top end.
