    Blowing smoke

I had my ride out yesterday and after it got hot it smoked real bad. Starts easy, idles nice but when its warmed up, not a bug around for two miles. Im getting ready to tear it down and do all new gaskets and seals and maybe a total rebuild. Was hoping someone could tell me what I got going on, thanks

Still has stock pipe and was wondering if that may be it. Gets hot and all the old carbon is burning out, just a thought. Anyone!!

Most likely thing if it's 4 stroke..

You probably had an oil ring break. This ring 'scrapes' the cylinder wall on the down stroke to remove excessive oil.

Or you didn't watch you oil level and you were revving the piss out of it and fried all the rings!!

Next time you post asking questions provide some detail to your question..

Sorry, it an 84 tecate and its white smoke and smells like old oil thats why I was thinking maybe its the pipe. Usually has that good 2 stroke smell to it but not anymore. I run golden spectra at 50:1 also

check coolant and trans oil level. If you suspect its the silencer pull it off and see if it still smokes so bad. How did it run otherwise?

Seemed like when I got to the top end it didnt want to go anymore. Top speed around 55. No band in 5th. I put in a different water pump impeller because shaft was pitted on old one and reused the seal in it. Seemed like the seal was like new but maybe I damaged that. Im just getting fed up with working on it more than riding it. Wanna do one last rebuild and be done. I will try the silencer off today and see what happens.

I thought about that too, maybe rings are shot but not that much time on the machine since rebuild 3 yrs ago.

What colour is your plug??..white and clean = coolant in cylinder, black &sooty/oily = oil in cylinder. What fluid level isn't where is should be??

Honestly, sometimes people are to quick to run to the forum and ask questions when their machines break. It is perfectly within their ability to gather some simple data that may direct their questions better and get better answers.

Get back out to your trike and do this 1st.

Then come back to your computer give us all the information you have and ask questions!! It will stop everyone shooting into the air searching for the answer to your problem.

    Help us to help you!!

Ok, thanks. I just got an complete gasket and seal kit and planned on that being my winter project, again so maybe that will do it. I downloaded a manual and got one off of ebay on a cd also to check for specs.

Sounds like you are sucking trans oil through your crank seals. I don't know of anything else that could duplicate the smoke and the smell of oil.

ID:	133778Ive been thinking that but when I had it apart last time(3yrs ago) I put new seals and bearings in it. But that has been on my mind because it has smoked a little but getting real bad latley. I bet I only have 10 hrs at most on it since the last tear down. I just checked and my oil is milky and plug is tan color. Plug was really loose when I just checked, actually almost 3 more turns and would have come out, Im suprized it still ran like that.

Wow, ok one at a time
    Milky oil = water
White smoke = coolant, or motor/trans oil
Smells like oil = motor/trans oil or 2 stroke oil (you know the difference, which is it?)
Loose plug = you can tighten it up, say 9 ft. #, or change it for one with a new washer (recommended, but likley not needed)
10 hours since rebuild = means nothing. You could hav edamaged the seals(s) when you put it together.

If that smoke smells like burnt motor oil and the oil in your trans is creamy you need to tear your baby down
