    86 200x axle question

Just got a 1986 200x, and it needs a new axle. i have heard that a 400ex axle will fit in there, is this true? if so that would be awesome because i noticed ebay has tusk adjustable width axles for a 400ex for like $180

so what options do i have as far as axles go then? from the research i've done, it seems i can either try to find another 86 stock axle, or swap in a 300ex rear end, but i dont really have like $500 to spend haha

^ Then get out of the sport, ha ha.......

83-85 200X axles fit which means the 82 250R (I believe) also fits.

83-84 250R axles also fit and add a couple inches of width. You will need to trim down your bearing carrier(chain adjustment area), use a 83-84R dust seal on the sprocket side and the 86-87X seal on the brake rotor side.
    Don't worry...just run watcha brung...

Don't take this the wrong way, but I am very curious as to how you got a 300ex swinger to fit on an 86/87 200x. I lined up the 86 swinger with a 300ex swinger - not even close at the pivot area. The 300ex carrier however is only 4mm longer than the 200x carrier and the stock axle is wider.

Cut, chop, weld... ooh, I forgot grind. I have a thread on the other trike site about it. Last week my computer went completely belly up during a storm so I don't have the build pics to post on here. Here is a finished product pic. That's a 2003 300ex swinger on my '86 "X" I know it's a poor pic but it's all I got left.

Is your user name the same on the other site? I'm interested in seeing your build. How is the ride height? Looks like you used the 200x shock, would the 300ex shock work for you now? Any pics of your bike as it sits?

Again, don't take this the wrong way, but when you mention a set up such as yours, you may want to ad that is is not a simple bolt on and go. Many folks here don't have the skills you may have to pull this off, but they will run right out and buy the parts nessesary to do the job because they think it will be simple. Then they find out they need a mill, welder, grinder, etc and the skills/knowledge to do it right and get pissed - its happened before.

I checked out your thread on that other site - looks pretty good but I would still love to see how your bike sits now. The pic posted here looks just right but on that other site it looks like the swinger is at quite a steep angle.

I think we all may be missing the obvious solution for putting a 300ex axle on the 200x - has anyone tried using the 200x carrier and bearing spacer with the 300ex bearings, seals, axle, brake hub, sprocket hub, etc.? It seems that if the 300ex bearings would fit in the carrier and if all would line up right, the most you would need is a 4mm spacer between the brake hub and the axle nut and you may not even need that if the axle nut has enough threads to tighten everything up. I'll have to bust out the old calipers and see what the I.D. of both axle carriers is.

That's a good idea!..... However, I put this together and took it apart, probably 8 times before I got it right since it was thefirst time I had done anything with something with more than 2 wheels! This means I seriously don't want to take it apart again to measure it out (blushing) LOL. Tht wuld have saved alot of cutting and grinding and welding if I could have used the stock swinger! SIGH! Still have thatstock swinger and carrier just sitting there BTW.
