Any ideas for what this engine is off of?

Well my buddy has been looking to sell his Big Red. Today he traded it for an 85 sx with a Honda 300 manual shift engine. IMO he got screwed pretty bad trading a pretty good shaped Big Red with decent plastics, new topend and jug with maybe 3 hrs running time, new timing chain, but only needed pinion and ring. The SX is beat to crap with tortured plastics, even the light shell is rough, rough tank, welds all over the place for the engine, on the partially home made exhaust, and tank. Tires are badly dry rotted, just really rough trike. It runs good so he says. Anyways, can anyone ID this engine....300ex? IDK.

Yes tnat is a 300EX engine. How did they do the swing arm swap? I see it lost the shaft drive somewhere along the line.

I don't know what engine that is, but it can't be an SX at all, since it has a chain. Unless somehow the whole swingarm was replaced? Can that even be done on an SX?

All sorts of oil leaks too, as well as a leaking petcock (note the second fuel valve). I know I can't see the whole trike in that pic, but based on what I can see and the OP's description, I'd say that thing has bad idea written all over it.

Still, I can't help but be intrigued with this whole glorious sounding mess; I'd like to know how the swingarm swap was managed too. Got any more pics?

    *edit*

Never mind, I see you just answered my question.

I was contemplating making the drive to get that and the other two pos he had listed. I hope you can at least get it running. Good luck to you.
