Removing smeared auminum from a cylinder?

Picked up a saw with a melted piston. I think the cylinder actually didnt gouge, but has some pasted on aluminum. Whats the best plan of attack? Its a coated alum cyl. Any sort of acid i can use to loosen it up? I dont want to take a hone to it.

Carefully used, muriatic acid will do the trick. But, take ALL precautions, and don't over-do it, especially with a plated cylinder....

I've used Muratic in a pinch to put back together a motor. I made a "swab' with a welding rod and a bunched up piece of shop towel. Worked good enough to run it for a few races!

My dad and I used Muriatic on a Yamaha Phazer snowmobile that melted a piston. As far as I know that sled is still running somewhere.
