    honda 200es smoking problem

So im guessing its a valve seat problem but here is the info. Its about 30 degrees F and when i start it up wont smoke at all. let it warm up for about 20 seconds blip the throttle a little, then waves of smoke just thick blue smoke. as soon as it warms up or you rev it, it will stop smoking completley and will not smoke agian until its bone cold. so my questions are is it the valve seats? also will it hurt the engine leaving it like it is.

sounds like possibly a worn or leaky valve guide seal???? That is a really wired sounding problem you have there since it starts smoking after it warms up a little and then stops smoking after it is at operating temp.

Sounds like you need to replace the valve stem seals...you can even do it without taking off the head (if you don't want to get a new head gasket), but it's a little harder and you'll need an air compressor. It won't hurt the engine to leave it, as long as you keep putting oil in it.

I know the particulars of the nature of the oil burning issue is confusing..

Go back to basics..dry compression test, small bit of oil in the cylinder and do it again. Check and report compression results to the class..

Low compression dry/higher wet = rings
Low compression dry low wet = valve issue

A cracked ring can cause smoke/no smoke symptoms sometimes..this test should give some hints.
