    New Main Jet 1985 Honda 200S

    Hey I replaced the stock 100 main jet with a 120 main jet.
    Put it all back together. It started ran for 10 seconds stalled
    now it wont start. I don't wanna get raped by the Honda dealer $$.

    I did not touch the pilot screw adjustment. It is set for the stock 100 main jet.

    So ok like what do I do now ? I am a newbee rotard so be kind ok.
    Any advice will be highly appreciated.

    Andy, use your head. What percentage is 120 of 100?? You increased the sized by about 10 jet sizes; So unless you removed the air box, installed a SuperTrapp and ported the head on the thing why on earth would you jump jet sizes so immensely??

    Your plug will be wet and it's flooded. If you didn't run it, I doubt it fouled.

    Why the jet change? If you merely removed the air box cover a 102 or so would probably be fine......

    wow I didn't know it was so drastic. I am running full cobra exhaust and a uni air filter.
    I will put the stock 100 jet back in. Yes I am sure that plug is super wet.
    The only other jet I have is a 115. Thanks Steve.

    Try the 115 if you want....but I imagine its still to much. It will work better than the 120 though. You don't have a leak in the intake boot that you are trying to mask with the bigger jet do you?

    No leaks. It slightly bogs sometimes when I stab the throttle. So I went with the 120 not knowing it was way too big for the cobra exhaust and Uni filter. I put the stock 100 main jet back in put the clip back in the 3rd groove in the needle and it still wont start. It was running perfect before. I should not have touched it. My first attempt at working on the carb.
    Just dont know why it wont fire up. I put in a fresh spark plug too and new fuel line and petcock. Tank is clean. Carb is clean. Effin Sheee Ite !!

    Jetting is not fun, normally I just open my air screw a 1/4 turn and play with the main jet (going rich 1st)

    I only mess with the needle if it bogs in the mid range area. The needle is more of a fine tuning aspect once the rough is done. Thats why they have different tapers on different needles; because merely raising or lowering it won't tune it properly.

    Is your air box lid on?

    Is the filter oiled?

    The 100 is to lean and if the lid is off, you are FAR TOO LEAN with stock jetting. Again, I'm thinking 108-110.

    120 is just too much but I may try the 115, take the lid off the air box and see what it does. If it still stinks. drop the needle by raising the clip so that large main jet can't open so fast, again, it still seems a bit large for just those mods. If it stumbles off idle idle, turn the air screw 1/4 turn either in or out and see what it does.

    ALWAYS MAKE ONE CHANGE AT A TIME and write down what you did and what effect it had on running.

    i think on mine 185s i went up 2 sizes for a 200x cam uni filter with airbox modded and bassani exhaust. and im still at the top of my needle

    Yeah I will have to get a 108 - 110. I do have a 115 but it might be too much.
    Airbox lid is on. 100 main jet back in. Needle clip 3rd groove. Brand new oiled Uni.
    I did not touch anything except the main jet. Now it wont start. Everything is set to stock settings. Carb has never been touched in 27 years. and I eff it up in 5 minutes.
    Yes you did build a perfect 350X but when I saw the guy who bought this 200S from me selling it again I freaked out and wouldnt let him sell it to anyone but me. I should have never sold it. 76 original hours. So now its mine. Oh well I recommended you to a guy who collects ATC's here in NY.

    Well I am def not getting raped by a honda dealer. They will gladly dial in my carb for 100 per hour labor. And get this .... he said it would take 2 hours to dial in the carb.
    I would rather set my money on fire in front of him. Its getting kinda chilly outside.

    The tough thing about jetting is we can't do it over the internet. You can do it yourself, though.

    It's not hard on a relatively stock bike with stock parts because the stock parts get you close.

    But read the plug. I had a 185s in the 80s. I put a Bill's pipe on it and actually had to lean it out. My theory is, it was scavenging better and generating a stronger vacuum to the carb and pulling more fuel through the jets. The point is, some times you think you need richer but until you read the plug you don't know.

    jb2wheels is right when i just had my bassani i was running way to rich on stock jets, so then i did more mods and went up 2 but im still way rich

    I've had motors that took weeks of dickin around here and there to get the starting and complete throttle range close to spot on.

    Some people get lucky, others can have a hell of a time.......

    I installed the stock 100 jet again and kept all settings stock. That's the way it was running for the last 27 years LoL. It wont start, so I got a 110 main jet in there now. I tried to start it with no gas in the carb and no fuel line connected and it fired up and ran a few strokes. Maybe from when it was flooded before some fuel was left over, after I hook up the fuel. It wont start. Brand new plug. I hope there is no gas in the crankcase ? IDK WTF I am doing here but I am trying. BTW I was reading that article before I installed the 110 jet today. Thanks for the feedback. Total newb to carbs. EFI is the way to go ....

    i had this problem a number of times. some times if you carb is dry and you line is dry the gas will not go into the carb, so take off the line at the carb, turn on the gas at the petcock, and put it on quickly. always works. make sure you dont have a fouled plug also.
