average 250es rebuild cost? pics added

hey all, asking this for my buddy. he's wondering what the average cost might be to do or or for getting a rebuild done on an 85 250es? he's not wanting to restore, just rebuild/refresh.

just looking for ballpark figures. thanks.

I have over 1000 bucks in one of my 81' 185s and its not completely restored. Might give you a little idea.

Getting something fixed up enough to ride and fixing something right is two different things. Restoring something would be another thing all together.

Does he care what it looks like? Or just that mechanically it is correct? I would think 1k would be a good bet, depending on condition to start.

I restored my 85 BR about 5 years ago and probably put more than $1500.00 into it. That included all new OEM plastick except rear trunk lid. Took it right down to the bare frame, sandblasted everything that was metal and had everything powdercoated. That included no work on the motor as it didn't need any. Runs like a top yet.

What all is he wanting to do to fix it up? New fenders are around $300 for a set, seat cover about $40, new tank about $150, tires are at least $250 for a cheap set of knobbies. If he's wanting to rebuild the motor a top end around $300 if you do it yourself, The skys the limit. You can find a pretty nice 250es for around $1000, trying to fix up a trike can get into you pocket pretty quick but its fun!

Well, here is a question with no accurate answer. I would tell him anywhere between $100 and $5000, depending on what he wants to do.

Ok from what I read he wants to do a rebuild/refresh. I figure he wants to redo his motor. If its just the topend and he didnt blow it up I would say ballpark $250. If the motor is shot and the trans is beat. Just try and find a new motor for around $500 to drop in. If he wants new plastic ans so fourth it can go as much as you can spend.

yeah not a restore, just a good rebuild/overhaul. motor, seals, bearings, gaskets, brakes, forks, shock etc...

here's what pics i have of his 250 thought i had more, but guess not. only needs a battery and front brake as it sits, runs rides great. just wants to do it now before anything might happen, you know preventive mantainance.
