Have a bad issue with the 200x...

**UPDATE** I found out what was causing the issue. Prior to this i took off the chain guard when i was tinkering with it and that was the reason why, Sorry for bugging everyone.

Well, some prior info for you knowledge hungry people.

When I got my 200x (1986) I rode it for maybe 15 minutes then (because I love tinkering) I changed the oil, inspected the air filter (uni foam) and cleaned the plug. after putting roughly 1.5 hours of riding time on it I noticed some oily stuff on the chain and the skid plate and that general area, at the time I really didnt think to much of it for some reason. Well another half hour of ride time when a friend and I went down the road (him on his doodlebug) I let him drive it through some yard to learn how.

When I hoped on it just for fun I noticed it started making a weird noise (very faintly) so I stoped and thought "okay, now I will check the oil". So I did and there was hardly any in it, I mean slightly below the low line and there was oil all over the left side of the engine and all over skid plate and that general area. Well i didnt start the thing at all after that and had my friend drive his doodlebug back to my house and get his truck. After getting it back to my house we washed her up and drained what was left of the oil and refilled it with "Mobile 1 10w-40 4 stroke wet clutch style" oil (is that good for it?). Then I got a rag and wiped that side of the engine all pretty like and started her up after 2 minutes of kicking and changing the plug.

Now i can physically see the oil coming out of this little spot right above the engine sprocket where the wires to what im pretty sure is the stator are. Is this simply a gasket fix because I have changed the gasket in this area on my 185s no problem. I really hope that nothing is bad inside the engine because I spent a lot of money on this trike.

those wires run to the flywheel/stator assembly with is directly below it and bathed in oil. someone correct me if I'm wrong but the rubber plug you see isn't sealing oil theres another one below it inside the casing thats sealed with hondabond. its like a centimetre below it. you have to remove the stator cover, try to save that gasket and inspect the rubber oil seal on the wires and seal it up with some sealant. i find honda doesn't do a great job sealing things from the factory. but someone may have been in there before

I was thinking counter shaft seal. I would think with that much oil loss it would be pretty clear where its coming from. thanks for the pics of the doodlebug,I was wondering what the eff you were talking about

check your crankcase vent hose. The leak seem to be a little too big for a wire over the oil level.Maybe the vent hose is plugged and there is a pressure in the engie causing this leak.

Ok put the 2 bolts by the drive sproket back in. The oil is leaking out because there is an oil passage right there and need the bolts. Its as simple as puting two bolts in. And the bolts are different sizes. Check out www.cmsnl.com for sizes.

Some guys don't understand why each bolt is only 3"s away from the other. It needs that for sealing and keeping it flat.

Torquing is a good thing too but most guys can go by feel if they've built a few motors.
