Well, Santa brought my ESR order today.... Oddly enough Santa was dressed in brown and drove a big goofy looking brown truck instead of the sleigh..

Got started with the first coat of black paint on my center cases and cylinder. Got the blue race fuel head and blue reedblock. Kinda going for the semi-stock '85 sleeper look. I think it's going to look great. Have to get another coat or 2 of paint on everything. Have a busy weekend so plans are to use my holiday and take monday off and going to my brother's place to put the big wing-dinger together over some coffee and stogies. I'll get some pics at various stages of assembly and post em up. But for now here is what I have....

Your gona run race fuel in it all the time on the trails? or dont you venture that far out on a ride? Did the ups whip your package over the fence and run or set it down nice. Been alot of talk on irresponsible behavior with delivery drivers. That things gona have some power.

Yes, I will be running 110 in it all the time. I have been anyway so I'm used to it. I don't really ride it out in the back forty, mainly go to Tug Hill where there are miles and miles of seasonal highways (gravel) that are open to ATVs. Lots of long straights, sweeping turns. Plus here in NY all pump gas has ethanol in it and I don't want that headache with my baby.

Can't wait to see what the big HP runs like up there! As far as fuel capacity, I have the PRM 6-pack rack. I know it looks kinda goofy, but it's EXTREMELY handy being able to carry 2 extra gallons of fuel with me. Now, my stock engine was stock porting, punched out .060, CR head gasket, 1Dir Racing reeds and reedcage, full FMF exhaust and 38mm Airstryker carb. I could get about 120 miles or so out af a full tank on the trike and the 2 extra gallons depending how hard I'm riding. Going to be interesting to see what the fuel consumption difference is with the 3-5-OH!

In reality, this is a fair weather rider. I want to keep it nice. When I feel like taking a slow paced ride with the kids I ride my old Quadsport. And that's what I ride around the house. About the only time I ride my R in my yard is to get it warmed up and dried out after washing it...I just don't have the room to let her run.

As to the UPS guy, I wasn't yet home from work when it was delivered. My wife sells Gold Canyon candles and gets candles delivered all the time and doesn't have many problems... And that's glass! Our UPS guy is pretty good.

I got 25 mpg with my 2 R's too with pipes and 38mm a/s. We got 10% ethanol here but in the 91 octane theres none. I have to check for sure. And jet accordingly

You are lucky you can avoid the "Deathanol" (as I like to call it), simply by buying higher octane pump gas. Here in NY, ALL pump gas has it, even the 93......Bout the only place you can buy ethanol free gasoline in NY is at marinas. And for what they charge per gallon I might as well just run 110. It ends up being about 3-4 bucks more a gallon. But I only go through about 15 gallons a season on my R anyway. So, it's kind of inconsequential...

Been doing a little painting. Going for the semi-'85 color scheme..Picture semi-polished stator and clutch covers. Kind of a sleeper to the untrained 450 rider's eye!

Still needs about 2 more coats. Just taking my time with it, I want it to come out looking good.. Whatya think?

I'm not really gifted with the camera. One pic is with the flash, the other isn't...

    Better pic.... I think

You guys will probably break my chops for brush painting, but I had real good results with the same method with a good, fine brush on a sled motor head.

Nice ! Looking forward to seeing it put together.
are you getting a stainless bolt kit for it?
That is a serious paint job. What kind of paint is it?

Already have the stainless bolt kit. I have painted the stator cover and clutch cover bolts black. I think it will look darn spiffy as they contrast with the polished covers.

As far as the paint, it's just regular oil based Rustoleum gloss black, a 5/16 fine bristle modeling brush and alot of patience. Just finished the 3rd coat on the cylinder. Looks like it's going to take 1 more due to the texture of the cast. Still have a wee bit of the texture showing through. It's curing by the woodstove right now and should be dry enough for another coat in an hour or 2.

Going to take everything up to my brother's place monday to put it all together. Would be doing it today, but his work schedule with the Air Force has him working this weekend.....Going to take a bunch of pics as we get it together monday. I plan on having the whole thing back together and first fire-up complete that day.

Well, 4th coat of paint is applied and cured on the cylinder and it turned out great!

2nd coat on the cases and I think I'll do one more tomorrow. The cyl seemed to need a little more as it has a rough, cast texture to it. I'll see if I can get my wife help me get some quality pics and post em up tomorrow.... I'm about as handy as a solar powered flashlight when it comes to using a fancy digital camera! LOL!

Well, I just got home from putting my R together at my brother's place! All I can say is WOW! Had alot of fun doing this build, and boy o man does she sound waaaay different than the old stock setup. That thang GROWLS!!! Unfortunately, I couldn't ride it since we now have snow in my neck of the woods. Just fired it up and ran it for about 3 or 4 minutes to check for leaks and whatnot. Gonna be a long winter!

Will be posting a bunch of pics, and if I can figure it out a little vid of the first startup.... Stand by
