Got into a bad car crash last night, picture on page 1

Last night I went to a friends house to hang out with a few friends. when i showed up they wanted to go for a quick car ride to the party store.
since it was a 5 min car ride i didn't mind.

there was 1 girl who i did not know but she said she was going to drive because my friend whos house it was drank a little and i couldn't drive because my jeep only seats 4 people and there was 5 of us.

me and 2 other guys got in the back seat of the chevy blazer while the 2 girls sit in front. Because the 3 of us were crammed in the back and it was a 5 min drive we did not buckle up.

well the driver did not know the road apparently and it was 10:30pm. blatantly oblivious on how to make a tyurn on an unknown road she went into a network of s turns too fast. on the sharpest turn she went off the road, when we hit loose gravel the car started to drift sideways as she tried to correct her direction. well because the car was soo sideways when we hit the asfault the car violently rolled 3-5 times. i was awake and alert the hole crash and it played in real time as i waited to feel extreme pain.
everything was quiet and dark, i luckily had my mini-maglite in my hand because i used it to walk to the car in the muddy driveway.
i turned on the light and told anyone who could to call 911.
we all then realized we were in pretty good shape and my friend kris helped us all crawl out of the back window as the blazer layed upside down in a ditch.

by then 2 ladies driving by had stopped and also called 911. at this point i felt5 pretty good and was in emergency mode. the driver was on the phone and crying. the front passenger was with the 2 ladies sitting in their car as she realized she was hurt. i was paranoid about cars hitting us so i stopped traffic with my maglight i was sooooo happy to have with me.

finally the police and ambulance showed up. we all got checked out by paramedics. me and the 2 other guys who were in the back seat unbuckled were amazingly fine other then some pretty bad cuts and scrapes.
the driver as far as i know is the same (remember i don't know her).
but unfortunately the front passenger has 3 broken vertebrae in her neck and a broken collar bone. she is at the hospital (UofM) right now and they were worried about spinal cord damage. from what i know now she is in stable condition and does not have spinal cord damage. hopefully it wont require surgery and she will just need a neck brace for 3 months to make a full recovery.

It is really a miracle the we got so lucky. im feeling VERY sore and really got my ass kicked. we tumbled in the car like bricks in a drying machine. The crash was soo bad and the car was in such bad shape. the rear axle came out from under the car and the drivers rear tire snapped off. the gas tank cracked and spilled a full tank of gas everywhere. and yet 4 out of 5 of us got out ok and dont need medical attention.

I will say that if my pain gets any worse tomorrow ill go to the hospital, but i think ill be fine. i have broken my back before and had my spine fused due to scoliosis so i know what it feels like to have spinal damage and so far it all feels very muscular. but because i do have metaln rods in my back i will go in of i start to feel any type of pain i that area.

the driver was 21 years old and completely sober, it was just a complete failure of judgement and lack of driving responsibility. im very upset about that and honestly would not mind seeing her never drive again. (bad woman driving jokes have been going on all day) but happens and i can live with that i guess. im lucky to be ok and everyone is alive.

Glad to hear no serious injuries. Good thinking with the maglite on traffic, that would never have come to my mind.

i almost always buckle, i cant even tool around the yard with the jeep without buckling. it was just one of those moments where there was no room. blazers are horrible for room and one of the guys is pretty big.

they were going to the party store to buy some drinks i think. they are all over 21 (3 of them 23, driver 21, and me 19) and were just gonna hang out at the house.

i didn't know they were doing this till i showed up or i would have waited to show up. i dont drink because i have been in trouble before and no longer do that, i dont even like being in cars with alcohol so i would have not went till after i they got back.

but because it was such a short drive i went....

Coming from an avid motorcyclist and car driver of over 15 years, and a professional truck driver of over 10 years, I will tell you that young women are THE WORST drivers on the road. I have no quams with saying it, call me sexist or whatever you want. Women are bad drivers, but young women are the worst. It's actually a toss up in my book between young women drivers and the extremely elderly. I've seen more issues on the road caused by women and old people. I'm not sorry for this observance, and you can't argue with what you've experienced personally.

Young women think they have something to prove to guys when they're behind the wheel. They all think that they're "that one chick who can drive" and they're going to prove it to you. Then they pile the car into a pole and drive over-cautiously for the rest of their lives after that.

I was following a 20 year old girl who was dropping her car off in a blizzard a couple of years ago. I begged her to please drive slowly and be very cautious. She laughed at me and sped away with her tires spinning. On the VERY FIRST fricken turn we came to she slid across the road and just missed eating it by inches. Had there been traffic coming the other way it would have been a mess. The very first turn. She slowed down after that, but it was just pure luck she even had that option anymore.

Heed my words younger trike brethren. Observe and form your own opinion based on what you see.

I'm glad you and everyone involved and relatively okay, make sure you BUCKLE up!!

I cannot agree with you more Fabio, I haven't been in the car with a woman who can drive in my life.

Women drivers are by far the drivers who cause the most accidents in my area, ESPECIALLY in the winter...

All those SUV's are top heavy. I have seen some pretty bad male drivers too. Its normal to panic during failure. I have hit the rear brakes on the harley in 2 critical situations not using the front brake. Fishtailing the rear then applying the front brake. You never can tell what will happen when it happens. So I guess the old biker saying is true.
    Expect the unexpected.

Fabio saw what I did and I damn well deserved it and paid for it later both mentally and financially. And I'm still paying........

Drive safe, sober, buckle up and I'm glad to hear the majority of you are AOK!
