got a used big red fork - brake housing stuck on axle shaft

bro and i were putting on a good BR front fork last night and ran into a snag. the fork i got came with a shitty axle and a brake housing thats stuck on pretty good. to get the axle off the one of the fork shafts we cut the head off the axle since the axle is junk and the threads are FUBAR. we tried to hit the old axle out with a smaller shaft and a . after a good 20 min it was a no go. we even tried tapping on the brake housing with a block of wood and a to slide it off the axle but it didnt do anything. now its soaking in a bucket of chain oil. any ideas how to get this brake off. the brake works fine and is in very good condition.

do you mean the front axle bolt where it goes thru the aluminum casing for about an inch?
That MIGHT be threaded in there.

I DO know that at some point, I was warned about those and walk around all of mine a couple times
a year and hit those with some penetrating oil for the day it's MY turn to take one apart.

hmm never thought about it. on my original axle shaft there are no threads except at the end where the nut goes on. the brake housing is about an inch deep where the shaft runs through. on my old fork before i bent it really bad a few years back the old brake housing looked dfferent. i know that for a fact. this one though could be aftermarket back in the day. ill giive it a shot when i get home.

what year big red you got?? 85-87 is threaded!! and 90% of the time the axle is seized in the threads

I truly AM worried about the day I get to take one apart which is why I hit 'em all with
liq wrench every time I think about it.
I guess the threads come out with the bolt on these sometimes IF the bolt comes out at all.

used fork is from 83-84. and those axles have no threading near the head, only for the nut.

ive had to heat the sh%t out of the last 2 i did and use a 4 fot breaker bar and go back and forth in very little turns to get them out without the threads striping or the bolt breaking
