Question about the oil leak on my 2000 Yamaha 250 Bear Tracker..

I found a reasonably serious oil leak that is dumping oil out the output shaft and down the driveshaft tube..

After riding this weekend I noticed a little puddle on my trailer, so I undid the clamp and pulled the boot back.

Quite a bit of oil came out of the boot..

May have something to do with the small amount of metal fillings I found in the filter last week.

Seems to run well and shift thru the gears, no slipping or lack of power..

Anyone ever seen this with the Yamaha 250 four stroke??

'leevarnado' tells me the 250 shaft engine swaps out with a bunch of other machine..maybe just time to start hunting!! I don't feel like doing a transmission rebuild...!!!

did u ever fix this? i have a leaking big bear (same engine) and the parts diagrams dont show a output seal but do show a oring in front of the bearing housing. wondering if the oring is the culprit or its leaking thru the bearing

No never did..just open the boot once in a while to check it. Keep the oil level up..no really problem at the moment.

That and the fact my brother has since gotten himself a 250ES and the quad doesn't get alot of riding now..
