I ordered a center mount pipe w/air box eliminator for my 86 250r the other day. Is anyone on here using one? If so , how do you like it. I have an FMF on it now, so i have nothing to compare it to.

I used one for a little bit and was not too impressed with it. It was down 10 hp from the pipe I pulled off of it and 15-20 hp less than the shearer but thats a drag pipe. They look nice and sound nice but have crappy plating on them that peels off after a few rides. For the normal rider there cool but we dyno test everything here for max hp and it didnt do it for me so I sold mine.
What pipe do you like on the 250r? Not looking for a all out race pipe. Just ridding out in a sand/gravel pits. I would think a mid range pipe would be best for my type of riding.
I have liked the performance of my FMF Fatty with Powercore silencer. My engine was stock cylinder bored .060, upgraded reeds and reedcage, with a 38mm PWK carb. I got good midrange out of that setup, but it did run out of wind up high. Worked well though.
I will be running a full ESR standard mount setup with the 350 big bore kit I'm waiting on... I don't want to run the centermount with airbox eliminator because I do get caught in the rain and wet conditions from time to time... Want to keep my airbox.

I just came back from a ride and i have a FMF on my 250r. I seem to sign off after 5th gear. Down low it 's ok. I hope the ESR is better than what i have. I may have to try something better.
That's exactly my experience too.
I have been told by some respected members here that the FMF is a good all round setup for a stock or mildly modded R (mainly bolt-on upgrades). But when getting into heavier mods, IE porting, big bores and whatnot, ESR and Paul Turner's are better suited. I have not experienced this for myself....YET! HEE HEE! I am just relaying to you what I have been advised of by other knowledgeable members here
Also, make sure your jetting is on. While I have noticed a bit of a sign-off at higher rpms in the upper gears, mine still pulled pretty descent in 5th. Will pull a wheelie with a little fan of the clutch and upward tug on the handlebars. All the upgrades in the world are useless if its not jetted in correctly.
