    86 200X head/cam

The "X" is almost ready. I have the rear end all done, forks are where we needed them but the motor simply would not run under load. We took valve cover off and found that the you could easily compress the springs with one finger. New valves and springs are on the way as we speak. The cylendar and piston are pristine giving credit to the guy who I bought it from (saying the top end was new).
Now I am looking for a little advice before installing everything...... The cam looks fine but I always read that XR200 stuff is an upgrade to the "X" (83-85). Since it is sitting apart do I take the time and effort to upgrade the cam (if the cam is even upgradabe on the '86) to an XR cam? Most of my riding is done on trails but I tend to push things rather hard. Eventually I'd like to race it a little but that would be just to hang in that enviroment as opposed to actually finishing well (if i wanted to finish well I'd need more than a 200X). Thanks, in advance, for all your expert, and perhaps not so expert, opinions! Any input will be greatly appreciated!

No the XR cam fits the 83-85 200X only. I don't believe the XR ever got the upgraded head on any year........

I have a full race cam in my 86/87 200X and a 12:1 piston. The race gas is a pain, I'd prefer to be down to 10.5 or 11:1.

It stayed right up with my stock 350X when jetted correctly. I love those motors.......
