    Shifter and shift shaft can spin 360 degrees... stuck in third

    Got new rings on her after siting for 2 months. new paintjob, got her all together starts up. ridding her around and BOOM. i go to down shift from 3rd and the shifter is vertical...

    Shifter shaft just spins and dose nothing. any thoughts? no clicking or bad noises, but it looks like im going to have to split the case for the 4th time.



    Unit is a 1985 Tri-moto 225DX three wheeler with a 5 speed auto clutch.

    You might want to download a manual fromhere, that will help. try removing the right side case cover, the shaft runs al the way through, &(on the 125 & 175) you'll be able to see what's going on there. Good luck.

    Ooop, hit "enter I was done- the 175 & 125s have the whole clutch & shifting mechanism right there on the right side. I've got no experience w/ the 225s, but how much different can it be, right?. It might just be an easy fix.

    not being a picky person but if u say u only have 4 gears there should be 5

    ^ well, he said this would be the fourth time splitting the cases so maybe he forgot a gear

    Yank off the right cover, you'll find the end of that shift shaft in relation to the drum having come apart in some way......

    Some motors, the clutch has to come off to see all the shifting goodies.

    Got a manual, didn't think it would answer my question. going to remove the side cover tommorow.

    was tired, it is indeed a 5.

    EDIT: Shift shaft broke at the factory wields. had a spare. fixed.
