    Hey Tecate guys ~ quistion.

In looking over the difference between the 84/85 vs. the 86/87 intake boots is there anybody out there running the 86/87 intake boot on their 84/85 trikes ?
My tecate is still unassembled so I can't do a comparison but the way I am seeing it is the 86/87 intake is a very usable part on the 84/85 models.
I used to think there was a angle difference between the A and the B models but looking at it again, I am leaning towards it just being that the 86/87 is slightly longer and giving the impression of angle difference.
Rather then have 2 different models in stock it would be nice to only have one that will do the the job of both.
So, any of you 84/85 A-1/A-2 Tecate guys running the B-1/B-2 intakes and/or input please from the Tecate guys ???

the only real differance I see is the notch in the 86-87 boot. I had a 2nd gen boot on my 85 and it worked fine with a stock airbox. On a side note your shifters got fitted today I just have to finish blasting them.will go out mon. or tues.

I was looking and the last pics are the same measurement on the bottom but longer on the top end. Wouldnt that make it different angles? Im sure if there is no stock air box used it wouldn't matter. Thats the only place I think that would pose a slight problem and that may not matter to much. Hard to say until its tried out I guess. To solve the angle question try to use a swanson speed square to compare the two, that may help you also John.

they are at a slightly different angle but as far as john's question the 2nd gen will work fine for all years where as the 84-85 on a 2nd gen will work but its a PITA

Wonder if there is a happy medium that will make it a universal boot that wont make it such a PITA? Just a though to make life easier for ya John!

I am real sure I don't have a swanson rule-LOL, but you guys did give a idea to check that angle question.
When I get some garage time a little later on today I will test out and post up results.

Not to hi jack your thread, but what clamp is everyone using for the intake boot as the stock Tecate one has been discontinued?

There is a wee bit of angle,

Mike, it was either F'ingLarry or perhaps Jason Hall that once told me some of the coolant clamps or somewhere under the hood of German made autos use a near identical clamp, BMW, Mercedes ???
I done some simple testing and Ben is right, there is a slight angle but IMO it is so slight, it should not matter bolting a 86/87 model onto the 84/85 model, just like he has already done.
And as said earlier it would be a mighty hard job to get the 84/85 correctly fitted onto the later model tecate, I can see that now.
Heck, alot of times it is a chore anyway since the other rubber tubes have become hard and quite possibly shrank with age over the years, ,
Well here are some pictures I took this morning.

yea im sure there is a happy medium if one is interchangable and one is a real pita.... but i know someone who runs an 84/85 boot on the 86/87 bike and it works but is a tight fit

i do see by the pics a slight angle change due the fact also that if one side is the same approx 1.3mm and the bigger side is longer than yes common sense would say a few degree... maybe 5-15 degree angle difference... im a machinist and cann help with some questions... also i have an 85 at home and your boot works great... but it is the 85 boot so i ant tell you first hand if it is a pita or not... hope that helps john...
