84 200x shifting problems where to start?

Hi my 200x doesn't seem to want to shift throught all the gears all the time, and i don't have much experience doing any engine work on atc's so is this something i can check out myself or should i bring it in to the shop and pay an arm and a leg. so if you can let me know where to start it would be nice....could it possibly just need to be cleaned or something? the whole trike was very dirty when i got it and i have it taken apart getting cleaned and painted and fixed and whatnot, the motor ran good when i tested it before i took it apart but didn't realiably go into all gears....let me know guys i know i am in good hands here lol

first thing to check is that the shifter is good and tight. and that the splines are good on the shifter and the shaft. I know its so obvious it sounds stupid but I have bought a few trikes with "blown transmissions" when it was just a shifter issue.

no the shifter was attached properly and it is an internal issue, I am new to the 200x manual shift though as all my other trikes are auto, when i shift one down which is first it seems proper and you can feel a little click but then when i go up for the other 4 gears you don't feel that click or anything and i can keep going up forever shouldn't it stop letting me go up when i hit 5th is that normal? I wish i would have tested it more thoroughly before i took the trike apart

Sounds like shift shaft linkage issue . Pull the clutch cover and see if the drum star is moving when you shift up .

90% of these issues are drums, linkage, springs, spring tension holders etc etc. Rarely in the main case. Just be aware you'll need that special socket to get the clutch out of the way.

Sometimes I jack up the rear end and spin the tire while shifting up and down and watching the drum, it usually shows the issue quick......

the engine is off the frame already, is that the socket that has 4 nipples like a castle torrent? i saw someone on here that made one with his grinder

ok so here is a short video of what is going on.......in case the sound isn't good on the video the issue is that it moves the star shaped gear when i go into first but then when i go up it doesn't turn it only once to go back into neutral......any ideas

Looks like the mechanisms that moves the shifter star is not working properly . Use a 10mm wrench and see if you can change gears manually . You will prob need to rotate the tranny while trying to change gears .
I would replace the shift shaft parts and the star and I think you will be back in business .

Looks like the mechanisms that moves the shifter star is not working properly . Use a 10mm wrench and see if you can change gears manually . You will prob need to rotate the tranny while trying to change gears .
I would replace the shift shaft parts and the star and I think you will be back in business .

I tryed no luck did the same as it was doing in the video....what shaft shift parts? the shift forks?

Might have internal shift fork issues if you cant shift it manually .

Are you spinning the rear tires when up shifting using the 10MM bolt in the center of the shift drum?

In your vid, nothing is spinning.......
