86 250R front end on a 84-85 200x

Has anyone put an 86 250r front end (complete) in a 84-85 200X frame and used tapered roller bearings?

I've searched and could find any threads on this. Can anyone help?

Yes I know early 250Rs will fit and you can exchange the fork tubes, etc. Any Ideas?

I don't know if the 3rd gen 250r front ends will works I have never tired it. I know that if you want to use an 2nd gen 250R front end you have to use the 250r trees becuase the 200x shock tubes are 33mm and the 250r are 35mm. You can also buy a kit from all balls racing that will let you replace the ball bearing for the tapered roller bearings. The 2ns gen 250r bearing will not work they are 3mm to small.

BTW the diameter of the fork tube of the 86 250R is 39mm and what I ultimately want to accomplish for the 200x front end application.

The question deals specifically with the inside diameter of the 200X steering neck tube and the outside diameter of the 86 250R steering stem.

Solution found:

Purchase tapered roller bearing kit for 200x and use a .5mm shim between the 27mm lower bearing cup and the lower portion 26mm 250R steering stem. The 200X upper bearing cup is 26mm and fits the 26mm steering stem. Spacers may be required since the steering stem of the 200X is slightly shorter than the 250R steering stem.

I don't know what your rake change will be or your steering stops.

The 83-85 200X stop is in the front, the 85/86 250R stop is in the rear.

The real reason is actually in Club Nicholson http://www.3wheeler.org/vb/group.php?groupid=5

You see the neck in a Gen II Nicholson is actually the same dimensions as a 200X. If I asked initially about the the swap with a Nicholson Gen II trike even fewer people would have known what I was speaking about or even tried the swap.

But now other members know it will work on a 200X for sure as well as the few of us who have Gen II Nicholsons.

It appears to me that the rake built in to the triple clamps are nearly identical, however the fork tubes are longer. To have the equivalent rake as the 200X initially had just move the forks in the clamps to suit your riding style. Yes you will have to modify the steering stops if you don't want to modify your tank.
