    militarizing a 250sx

    hey everyone,

I just started the process of making my 250sx as military as possible. so far i have the frame, plastics, tank, axle, forks, and several other parts painted and am currently fabricating a couple other pieces for the authentic look. I have a nice military jerry can, saddle bags, radio bag, 3 ammo cans and another big bag for it. still looking for a military mirror, blackout light and a way to put on a speedometer. Tomorrow I will upload some progress pictures for anyone intrested in following the project. I know the military never offically used atc's but figured by going this route with my custom restoration i'd have a rather unique atc when im finished. anyone know if i can put nerf bars on this thing? if none are availble ill make some custom ones outta steel tubing.

    Kevin

I don't think any company ever made nerfs for that specific model but I'm sure you could fab something up pretty easily. Post some pics along the way. I wanna see this thing!

Actually, CMP and another company or 2 made brush guards for the 250es/sx back in the day. They look awesome but are hard to find. I bought a set for my SX from a board member, just waiting for them to get here, but when they do, I'll take measurements, etc. I'd like to reproduce a pair for my Big Red. http://www.3wheelerworld.com/showthr...ed+brush+guard

ive seen alotta the 250sx's turned into military style trikes. im just wonderin, why do that when you can do somethin creative that no one else has done? i dont know how you feel about it, but id rather have somethin unique than try to recreate what someones already done. but thats just me......

Here are a few photos of some of my progress. sorry about the blurry pictures, someone cracked my screen on my camera so I can not tell if its focused or not. I'll be uploading some more pictures soon. M front fender cracked in the center so i either need to fix it or make a custom one.

    update

today i found some canvas material in one of my military crates i could use to cover the seat but im still debating weather i want to cover the seat or use some vinyl paint and make it black. im gonna have to rebuild the forks because the suspension is very very stiff...never done forks before but shouldnt be a problem. i also found some nice military number and letter stencils for the id numbers i want to put on it. I might make a little wagon for that machine gun behind the atc that would also lug some extra ammo cans with some dummy rounds. a buddy of mine just dropped of a military issued pick axe, communications radio with antenna, and some other goodies for the look. gonna start welding on the mounts for the jerry can and custom front end if i get to the tractor supply company for some sheet steel in time. I will be clear coating this week after i paint on the star and numbers, ect, ect. anyone have any suggestions for this thing?

thanks, i need to refurbish those mud flaps or what ever you wanna call them on the back plastics. their kinda faded, im gonna have to figure out how to make them have a semi shine, not to flat or shiney. i wanted to paint the rims tonight but i cant get the front axle off for the life of me. gonna have to bust out the old breaker bar if the impact gun doesnt do the trick.

Im going to fit some sort of hard leather bag on the forks for a shotgun. I did some modifying of the rear frame for a jerry can rack, came out nice. cleared the back plastics the other day and just made my template for the star on the gas tank. I still need to pick up a light for it, I'll probably get that within the next two days. I was thinking about the winch but dont think i have a place to mount it. Ill be uploading some more pictures tonight.
