Odd question about the gear shifter honda 250r

Ok I have brought this up before And this may be a stupid question bit if someone had the gear shifter arm out and didint put it back in in the right gear positioning when reinstalled is it possible to on have 4 gears instead of five. Im away home and cant wrench on. If it's not possible for that to happen I'd like to know thanks

If it goes through 4 gears just fine it should go into 5th. Look at the shifter and see if it hits anything, pretty simple

Yup, the position of it, unless it is at an extreme so that it hits the footpeg, is irrelevant. If it shifts into one gear, it should shift into the rest. In fact, the position is a matter of personal taste; I run mine fairly low, while my wife likes hers higher.

Well when I got it the shifter pedal was already set prett low too low for my liking but I left it for the time being . So I can take off and go through 1to 4 beautifully I try 5th and the pedal moves up a bit dosent hit anything but dosent go into the gear. No sounds no click no anything it's weird . Runs very strong . That's why i thought the actual Gear shifter shaft was actually put in wrong
Is there an easy way to check

It is posible to get the cogs off by a tooth if you didnt get the shifter shaft back in.I had it happen to my 300r a couple weeks ago when I put it together .I checked it by shifting the gears before I put the engine back in the frame.

    Are you sure you're not just unsure of the gearshifting pattern? 1, N, 2, 3, 4, 5

Jason125m has a point. are you sure youre not thinkin that there should be 5 above neutral? cause once you get to neutral, theres only 4 gears above that

if the teeth on the shifter cogs are off by one tooth it wont let you shift into the last gear .They go together a certain way. Has anyone else had a tranny apart on one of these .Iv had 250rs since 85 and worked on them since then.
