I'm running a stock 185s carb right now, but I'll be putting the 200x carb on in the spring.
I'm using both 185S carbs and 200X carbs. Frankly, I've got too many stock carbs to rebuild, I don't even consider the ebay knockoffs. I think I've gone up two sizes b/c of no air box lid, different air cleaner, and modified exhaust.
I believe the 185/200s carbs were 24mm, and 200x was 26mm? Not 100% sure, but I believe the 200x carb is indeed bigger, and I know it adds a little power, as I have compared the two myself. The XR 200 carb is a 28mm, and would be better yet, especially if you already had performance pipe, and XR camshaft or better. Remember, when you put the 185 or 200s motor in the 200x chassis, you have to use the 200x intake manifold, as the "s" intake comes out at a different angle, and the carb wont clear the frame. Good luck!

you have to keep in mind that a new carb with no dirty passages and bigger (allowing more air) could accept more fuel

It sounds like you need to adjust the air/fuel mix screw located on the bottom of the bowl. If its closest to the engine, then its a fuel screw, so turn it in to lean it, and out to richen. It its on the airbox side of the carb, its an air screw, opposite, so in for richer, and out for leaner. I cant remember off hand what side it is on, but have messed with them a lot. They are hard to get at, and you will need a small, short (thats what she said) standard screwdriver to adjust it. The correct but tricky way to set it is to turn it in slowly and carefully count the number of turns, about 1/4 turn at a time. Do this until the engine slightly stumbles, then start turning it out, until the engine stumbles. If you counted the number of turns correctly, it should be set by turning half the number of turns you just performed. I hope I didnt confuse you.
Adjusting the needle has nothing to do with the low end/idle of the motor. By adjusting the jet needle adjusts the way the engine runs from 1/4 to 3/4 throttle, then after that its the main jet to wide open.

Air screw doesnt help since i have it almost all the way out turned in just a bit to make it stay in and not wobble. and moving the needle helped a little since now im only using like 2 plugs every weekend instead of like 4
AUTOXER: yea i might just get a mikuni xr carb off ebay and tryit. since i know everywhere around here sells mikuni jets and they are relatively cheap

Sorry to dig up an old thread.
I just picked up an 85 Auto-X with a 200S motor. Not sure which carb is on it at the moment but I know the floats are stuck so it has to come off for a cleaning. I do have a carb off an XR250R... Would I be better off putting that on? I will ID the current carb tomorrow.
