    ?? on 85-86 250r pipe and silencers??

it seems that 80% of the liqid R's i see have the fmf fatty pipe, with power core silencer!! Is this because it is one of the cheaper units, or is it a good quality set-up? I have done no research on the matter, but just thought i would ask you more seasoned 2 smokers your opinions on this set-up, and the reason it is so very popular with the 250R! thanks for any insight!!

Its an "OK" Pipe in my opinion, Much better options out there I think. Its cheaper than most, everyone sells them or used to sell them, and its shiny! People like shiny. They are indeed everywhere! I bet its safe to say its FMF's best selling pipe. lol

FYI: LRD, now known as LED Performance has re-released their ATC Pipe, Looks the same as the adjustable version they used to sell, but no longer adjustable. Nice pipe, Just priced a little on the high side, but it is what it is. HH

    Aldo,
I had a full powercore on mine, sounds good when your not on the bike but when you are its LOUD! Like HH said, cheap and shiny. I remember jeff saying he didnt care for them either. That being said imho i think they are much better than stock and dont break the bank like others.

I just replaced my FMF pipe with a CT pipe and the difference is amazing.. It sounds better, it pulls harder... $144.73 shipped on Ebay.. The deals are out there...

If I'm not mistaken, FMF is about the only aftermarket company offering a full exhaust system for the ATC's for under $300. They do work well with a stock or mildly modded R. But they have their limitations. I used to run the FMF setup on my moderately modded R and it did work quite well. But now that my R is an ESR 350, I went with the full ESR exhaust. There are a few others out there making the ATC exhaust systems, but they are a bit pricier. ESR's pipe alone costs as much or more than the complete FMF system with silencer. It's my opinion that you see so many FMF systems out there because

    A) they are the most inexpensive compared to others,
    B) they work good with a stock or mildly modded R (Not many people out there running Big Bores compared to stockers)
    c) FMF is a fairly large company and their products are carried by alot of aftermarket catalog companies like Dennis Kirk

But all in all, they are a pretty good system for what they cost compared to PT, ESR and whatnot as long as you aren't expecting it to work on a heavily ported or Big-bored R. I found that my power signed off like you flipped a switch when getting into the top end of the RPM range. I have yet to really ride my 350 setup yet. But a ride report will be posted in spring when I can get it out and really stretch it's legs and my arm-sockets. I'll let ya know how the ATC5 pipe and TRX9 porting work together on the 350 compared to my old setup..

FMF is decent for cheap power. I have one atleast the plating stayed on it unlike the esr pipe I got that flaked off in a 1/2 hr of use. I have a PSI hi rev pretty peaky on the bottom end and dont fit well. The fmf fits real good most of the other pipes including the esr one I had took some grinding and reefing to make it fit.

i would imagine these systems were purchased long ago!! Have they made any changes over the years?? My trx has a power core 2 silencer!, any differance?
reminds me of cobra pipes, and how lots of the 4-stroke trikes have them!! One of the few affordable options for the atc that are still made! glad to hear the fmf's do not have the same rep as cobra!! no one ever has anything nice to say about cobra exhausts!! I had one on my 89xr6, again because it was all that was available!!
