    yamaha fireing problem

    Ok yamaha guys. I'm normaly a honda guy but a friend just called me up and said, he did some trading and ended up with this yamaha. and he wanted to sell it because it would get fire and then none?
    i went over and picked it up for 150.00 86 225 dr black and gold runs great for about 50feet then dies no spark push it home and it fires right up. what should i look for?

    im pretty sure those problems are the coils, since as soon as they get warm they die, or is that the stator i forgot lol

    Check the reistance between the windings of the stator, and check the coil. Sometimes (often enough) a coil will read good resistance until warm, then it breaks down and doesn't work. If your stator tests good, and so does your coil, swap out a different coil and see if it makes a difference. If the coil reads too high or low in the first place, scrap it.

    ok thanks i will try a new coil. my buddy said they check the stator and it was fine, i know i need to check it my self though.
