Searching for my first trike, suggestions?

I have been riding quads and dirtbikes for most of my life, but have become obsessed with trikes over the last 6 months. Anything else no longer even interests me.

At this point after about 3 months of endless researching ive found that the tri z atc 250r and tecate all have devout fans. People tend to steriotype the atc as the best, but i think that view if often projected by biased people. It sounds like, in close to stock form, the tri z has best bottom end and tecate is overall the fastest but the atc has better suspension and reliability.

Also, is there anyone on here that prefers the 5 speed tri z to 6 speed? At this point I am basically patiently waiting for a relatively unmolested trike to come along for the right price. I ride mainly trails and dirt hills, some sand. There is an 86 tecate that i have my eye on for 1500. It looks really clean and new fenders clutch ricky stator and flywheel. 6' extended axle and swingarm. It has been for sale for some time now though so i am thinking it might have something fundamentally wrong with it. Any advice? To me the rear shock looks a bit low but that might be just the longer swingarm. If it is blown, ive heard banshee shocks work well on them, no?

    Thanks,

I think that Tecate is a hell of a deal if all checks out ok! If its your first trike though just take it easy until your comfortable with the handling of the beast! Most recommend getting a 4 stroke to start with but to each his own. I feel its like buying a Harley and getting an 883 and after a month wishing for the 1200. If you are used to 2 strokes already then Id go for the Tecate for that price but if it doesnt check out the 250R has parts that are alot easier to get. All are great machines but different from each other. Could go for a 350X also!
    Just sit back and chillaxx

Cool, let me know how it checks out/if he buys it. I am definatley a 2 stroke guy. The 350x is nice, but not my preferance.

    Hey,
That tecate looks real nice. I don't have any experience with them as i currently own 2 1985 atc250r's and a 1985 ytz250 tri-z. All are nice rides and you'll never go wrong with any of the three brands. I'm 95% complete on the restoration of the tri-z i
picked up in Grand praire in December. Then the last 250r to get tweeked up. Come to B.C. lets go riding!!!!!!!!!
    Current 3 wheelers owned:
    2 - 1984 Honda 200X
    1 - 1985 Honda 200X
1 - 1985 Honda 200X (for parts, because it tumbled down a 200 foot slope)
    2 - 1985 Honda 250R
    1 - 1985 Yamaha YTZ 250 (TRI-Z)
    1 - 1986 Kawasaki KXT250 (Tecate)
    Vintage owned:
    1 - 1966 Pontiac GTO
    1 - 1988 Suzuki LT500R (QUADZILLA)........
    Snowmobiles:
    2008 Polaris Dragon 800
