nope, sounds like a carb. problem 2 me..
Sounds like its running lean.

84 225dx - meh, it was a pile
I have NO idea what could cause it, never heard of that to be honest. Keep us all posted when you figure it out....
It could be out of time also, too far advanced, and that will make it run hot, because the spark occurs before the piston reaches top dead center. Check the carb, and especially for air leaks first. Especially near the intake manifold on engine side of carb. An easy way to check it is to start the engine, and spray starting fluid around the mani. If the engine revs up or stumbles, there is a good chance there is an air leak at that gasket, or a crack in the boot. I have seen this many times. ------ Jon.

I love learning from you guys. Hope I never need some of the info that I learn though.....
I'd agree with the others, but suggest you check for exhaust flow restriction also. Too much back pressure like a plugged muffler will cause the exhaust heat to buildup in the front pipe..

Is the air box lid on or off??
Any other mods??
All our government does is distract us while they steal from us, misspend our tax $ and ruin our country
My stock yfz 450 did it from running lean. Rejetted more rich. Just a size n it stopped. Ran better to
Yup agreed with all above. It could be many things. I suggest check timing, check valve clearance, check spark plug for lean running. I had a raptor that did that and it was too far advanced in timing.

Its air cooled... take any air cooled engine, and hold the throttle steady at 1/4 while staying still.
Pipe will get red, air foolers need constant airflow. Trudging through the snow puts the engine under load and at a slow steady pace, pipes will heat up quick. But i would look into what the others have said, too lean and timing.
^^ Not all air cooled models do that.... ridiculous advice.
He definitely is either running VERY lean, or his timing is too advanced...
