What's with all the people trying to get something for nothing lately??

Look, anything you buy for $500 or less is going to take ALOT more than a couple hundred over the winter to make it race-worthy. I live in NY too, and around here for a trike that at least runs, you won't find anything under $500 that has front and rear suspension.

If you want to seriously race, get a 3rd gen 250r. A RIDEABLE, not fully restored, not race ready, not minty specimen will run you a grand minimum. Only reason I say get a 3rd gen R is due to the fact that parts are more readily available that Tecate's and Tr-Z's...

Once you buy your running, functional, but in need of some TLC, thousand dollar R, you are looking at 2g minimum to get it race-ready for stock 250 class.. My R started as a $1000, running, rideable but needing work trike. $6500 later, I have a factory-tight chassis, better handling, and a 350 ESR engine with all the add-on goodies. AND I'M STILL NOT DONE!

People just aren't giving the trikes away like they were in the late 80's and early/mid 90's...

Yes, but you just aren't going to find a 2nd gen 200x that just needs a couple hundred put into it to make it race ready for under $500!

A good 2nd gen (when you can FIND one) around here will go for $1000 minimum.

Not trying to defecate in anybody's cornflakes here... Just trying to inject a shot of reality into this conversation...
