    Stripped out spark plug / Heli-Coils ???

Anyone here have any experience using a heli-coil for a stripped out spark plug hole. I just bought a little atc 70 and the hole on the head that is on the engine is stripped. The guy I bought it with sent me another head that is nice and clean but the spark plug that he has in the extra head has a larger plug than what goes in the 70. It is a NGK D8HS which goes in a 90/110 atc. I was told by a friend that running the wrong plug in there even though it fits might run at a different temp and could make matters worse. He told me to use a heli-coil.

When I went to the auto store they didn't have any metric sizes, I think the spark plug i have has a 10mm thread on it. Where is a good place to get.

Any other advice would be appreciated.

    helicoils

yeah jd, i'e used them before and both times it turned out perfect.
i can't scan anything as of yet ( computer has the flu ) but the kit i bought is from napa and is made by balkamp. i ain't sure of the thread size for a 70cc honda but if you take the correct plug in with you i am sure a good counter person will work with you. if i ain't mistaken,,, seems i spent a total of about 35 - 40 dollars for everything i needed wich included the kit of 5 helicoils ( adapter to install ) + correct size drill bit + loctight (blue colour i think) + a can of wd-40 to hose out the shavings from the drill bit. i cheated a little by not taking the head off. i put the piston at t.d.c. and done my drilling and then flushed out the cylinder with wd-40.
hopefully some of the other board members can just give you a good cross reference on a plug to use,,, lots easier i would think.

Im almost positive I have at least one more good 70 head, which usually bring about $50 + shipping if youd rather go that route.

Those heli-coils work great, I've used them many times. $50 for a good used head sounds better though. Hey parsons, do you have any 110 carbs??

    82-84 250r (basket case)

When in doubt: STAND ON IT!!!!
