    Question 85 BR dissassembly help!

Tearing down an 85' BR that I'm parting out. Running into a few snags and have a few questions.

    1) I cannot break loose the swing arm outer "nut". Made a removal tool from a 1 1/8 socket but after slipping off numerous times and smashing my thumb on the last attempt, I decided I don't care if it comes off as long as I can still remove the motor from the frame. I do have the the axle and rear differential removed so the drive shaft is disengaged. After removing the boot will the drive shaft be disengaged enough to remove the motor from the frame?

    2) What's the trick to removing the plastic harness electrical connectors that are pushed onto the metal tabs welded to the frame? Cant seem to find any release features.

    3) Are the starters on the 85 and 86 interchangeable? Want to save it as a spare but did notice differences in the housings.

Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions!

I've had best luck breaking that nut free with a punch and a . After soaking it for a couple days with PB blaster.

The trick is to wiggle and bust open a few fingertips when they come
    Not sure on the starters.

the plastic things are mostly mounted in rubber, the rubber you have may be so hard now it seems to be rubber. The plastic will come out with a little lube and just getting a little aggressive. The drive shaft should fall out if the differential is off. Just give it a pull. Its held in with a spring between the side gears and the pinion gear.

to remove the swing arm nut u need to have one of those huge wrenches hooked to a pipe wrench thats how i got mine out, i just changed the swing arm bearings on mine, Also u gotta watch out on the case where the starters slip into it, some starters have an extra tip that slides into a bearing, and some dont, But other then that the starters will fit and work perfectly.

wytecracka - was hoping the finger/knuckle smash wiggle wasn't the only answer! It's what I was afraid of........I will try soaking it before I try again. Did try the punch but was just starting peen it over.
took me a moment to get your user name....

andersonee4 - Some them are mounted in rubber holders....but I'm talking about the rectifier plug, cdi plug, etc that are mounted directly to metal tabs on the frame.

Define "huge wrench". I made a 1 1/8 socket to fit it with my dremmel. just cant get any leverage without it slipping out. Had a 18" breaker bar on it when it slipped off and I slammed my thumb into right side case cover. Turning a nice shade of black now and I can feel my pulse through it

I used a socket cut as well, which worked good. I used a shallow socket and a breaker bar with a pipe. If yours isn't coming off in the same manner, you probably need the tool. you could try to "sharpen" the points on your socket, so they dig in. I'd say penetrating fluid, lay the bike right up on the side and let it soak overnight, Torch it, and try again.
