    exploding 85 tecate gas tank

Ok so I picked up my 85 7 months ago not running. Havnt had time to work on it, no gas in tank. I was moving the bikes around in garage and running the ones that work when I observed that the tank on my 85 tecate looked like a cracked egg. The tank was cracked all over. I've never seen that before and don't know how it happened. Anyone ever had this happen to them? All the other plastic tanks are fine and it doesn't get that hot in the garage. Only thing I can think of is if the old owner ran 110 octane and it just dried out the plastic.

I know that my regular plastic gas tanks will expand in extreme heat even when they are empty. Maybe that happened.

There old, but you'd think the gas cap vent would vent it enough unless plugged.

The Tecate has an odd gas tank plastic formula as it is, they fade allot but thats over many years though.......

May have sat in the sun for years or used race gas as you suggested, who knows.

Polaris plastics tend to do that as well, the oil tanks on the O/I quads have a nasty habit of doing that after exposure to long periods of hot and sun.
This is my trike. There are many like it but this one is mine. My trike is my best friend, and it is my life. I must master it as I must master myself. My trike without me is useless. Without my trike, I am useless. I must ride my trike true. My trike and I know that what counts is not the amount of miles we ride, but the time we ride together. My trike is human in it's own ways, therefore I will learn it as my brother. I will learn it's weaknesses, it's strengths, it's parts, and it's soul.
