Spring is comming!
And i'm not ready yet
I've been away from this site for far too long but like most life has a way of getting in the way. I'm going to summarize quite a bit as my pc is acting up but to make a long stort short my x has been apart for the better part of 2 seasons now. Was having chain issues in the fall, went to adjust it properly and the swingarm bolt was stuck. Ended up taking over 3 months to get the thing out and it was fubar'd pretty good so i took it to the local machine shop to see if they could fix it. They ended up taking another 3 months to fix it. In the meantime i've been bored with a stripped trike in my basement. I've started polishing random bits, degreasing everything, ordering new parts to replace worn out/broken ones. Made a nice list of things to get for the engine. etc
Anyways on to some pics of some progress. Hoping to have everything ready to go by may sometime, but funds permitting there's still tons to do. Sorry about the poor lighting in most of these pics. Better ones will be taken as the reassembly starts and we get some nicer weather to work outside.
T he last run before the chain fiasco.

Before getting the swingarm off.

What was left of the needle bearings.... Please service these things guys! you'll be glad you did.

Stock front wheel. Nothing special

Same front wheel and fork after a few hours of work.

The machine I came up with for buffing some other parts. So much faster then the buffing wheels and a highspeed drill. The motor is only 1/3 hp but it works fairly well.

some work on the tripples, not perfect, but this is a rider thats getting a facelift. Also would end up taking off way too much aluminum to take all the blemish's out. Going to look for a set in better shape and redo the polishing.

And last but not least CHECK YOUR STEERING STEM BEARINGS! otherwise you end up with this... When i pulled it apart the cage was in 4 pieces and only one or two bearings fell out. Good thing I have a spare stem. Also going to switch to tapered roller bearings now.

Waiting on parts to arrive sucks. Although it does give time to make a little bit of headway. Got the frame scuffed up and a coat of paint on it (automotive, not
) I see by the pics i went a tad thin in a few places, but ill fix that with the 2nd coat, swingarm was degreased scuffed up and repainted. The pictures dont really show the color that well (cell phone camera) but its a real dark bronze color and I think its going to compliment the frame well when I get every thing else together. Got home after work today and it was actually 22degrees c, So I hauled a bunch of stuff outside that needed to be washed and naturally brought the frame out for a small photo op in the sun. Now the paint work didn't turn out 100% perfect because like everyone says a nice finish is 110% prep etc etc but I'm happy with it. This trike is being built to ride for my area which means lots of mud, sand, rocks and deep water from time to time. All in all I'm pleased with the way its coming along. Now to get the engine broken down and see what it needs to come back to its full potential.

I'm really surprised the stock tank held up as well as it has

Also does anyone know the paint code for the factory color for the tank?
And to prove my point here's a pic of my old 185s in one of the many holes around this area.

actually I live in the city limits, well town really. Its a small place but 20min drive and you can roam all day and never see the same trail twice.

Don't know the code, but I think it's called "Shasta White"... looking good on the redo!

Thanks atc350xer, all those hours of overtime are starting to pay off finally. 2 wheels are fun, but 3 is so much more fun.
