Painting frames and plastic yourself...with a paint gun.??

Anyone have any advice. When my Z got its plastic airbox cap painted the guy added flex coat so the paint would not crack. Its awesome.

My next Z project i was thinking of using DuPont paint and an air gun and doing the frame and some of the plastic myself...but dont know the first thing about air guns and painting....

any advice....

This is the first frame I painted (The 500X project) I didn't do the prep quite right, or mix enough hardner in...The paint came off kinda easy. When when Its totally done I'm gonna go back and re-paint it. But its definetly pretty. I also painted the gas tank with same stuff but it didn't come out quite as nice because the tank wasn't straight, had alot of hidden dents in it that I didn't see until the paint was already on it. Dupont Imron High gloss black is what the paint is.

Na...I kinda quit doccumenting things as close after I painted it and stuff...I've went so far from that now that I can't really go back.

What type of paint (DuPont or PPG?) Which is better? What does the average amount needed to paint a frame cost?

Do you need a baking room for DuPont paint?

What flex agent or flex coat do you add to the paint so it will bend when plastic is painted?

Where can I get all this stuff ?

How much do you think it would cost to paint a Tri Z with the frame black, radiator shrouds black, headlight silver and airbox cover black and white.

3 colors of paint mostly using white if I do it myself.

i use acryllic enamel (sikkens and dupont) it is real spendy ,,, around $250 a gallon with all the reducer,and additives,,, it puts down a great finish,that is real durable ,,,, with a quart i have painted 2 frames 5 swingarms and several small parts , here are a few things i have painted,,,,,

1. My paint tech uses a SATA NR95 gravity feed gun for color and a NR2000 for clear coating. Both with a 1.3 tip

2. We use Dupont. It outlasts PPG

3. My painter has done a few motorcycles, he charges about $150-200 depending on color. He would do it for less for me.

4. Dupont 2330 Plastic Adhesion Promoter (shot over rough plastic)
Dupont 2350 Flex Additive mixed with the clear

5. From any paint supply store that carries Dupont line of paint

i am currently painting my tank after i had the holes fixed

i sanded the tank down to bare steel (80grit random orbital)
then i used some bondo and filled in the little dents
i saned the bondo with 180 then 400 till it looked good
i then used hi build primer after the first coat i dry sanded with 400 then another coat if the primer then i wetsanded with 800
i just applyed the first coat of red about an hour ago and i can see where the bondo spots are
will this go away after the 2nd or 3rd coat of red or will it show? if so how do i corect the problem?
