    250R Petcock... after searching!

I'm trying to rebuild my petcock and I've gotten a lot of good info by searching the forums. I know I need gasket # 16955-HA2-005 but when I looked up the 86 TRX250R on Service Honda it shows an X-RING #16963-HB9-005 between the valve lever and gasket. Is this an O-ring? I'm going to order it, just wondering because the 3 petcocks I've taken apart did not have this part. Just the gasket, valve lever, spring, washer and plate.... maybe that's why they are leakers!

I also read where the CRF450 petcock and valve would work but I really don't like the idea of sucking gas from the bottom of the tank. Does anyone know if the CRF100 petcock will work? It looks just like the 250R and has a reserve. Here it is on ebay.

    Thanks guys n gals!

When I fixed mine, I just replaced the rubber 4 hole gasket, like yours, that is all mine had in it. It still doesn't shut off 100%. I think there is an o-ring that should go in there as well, whether or not its the one from the auction you linked...

that crf petcock would probably bolt right up but i bet the barb is facing the wrong direction cuz most Honda 4 stroke petcock are on the opposite side of the 2 strokes

Search key... Yea, I use it more than google! The mian questions that I couldn't find an answer for is 1) the X-RING #16963-HB9-005 between the valve lever and gasket, it's item #9 in the TRX schematic. Does that go in the 250R petcock? 2) Does anyone know if the CRF100 will work... looks like it?

I completely forgot that I have a CRF230 project in the shed so I will confirm if that petcock is compatable this afternoon!

The main reason I don't want to convert over to a non-reserve valve is because you will be then pulling fuel off the bottom of the tank which is where water and trash will be.

Much obliged Mike! I didn't find that one in my search. I'm ordering the parts now. Can't believe the 3 I took apart didn't have an o-ring??? They will now...

Update... The 2005 CRF230F petcock I have is a perfect fit. It does have a reserve position. The two differences are, the barb comes out the back, not down and it is 1 size smaller. The id of the CRF barb is .160" and the 250R is .200". I ordered the petcock parts today for around 11 bucks, including the x-ring. Just for grins, I took apart my 4th 250R petcock and still no o-ring/x-ring! I wonder if this was an upgrade or fix for the TRX??? Can't wait to get the new parts and see that little x-ring. I'll post pics for a $1 per view.
