Damaged my flywheel's thread on my 200ES
I need to change a cam chain on one of my 4 ATC200ES, I have had the flywheels of 2 of the other ones using the front axle bolt a tip I got of this forum. Today I attempted to remove the flywheel but it just didn't want to pop off. After numerous attempts I see the flywheel's thread is stripped! Is there any other way I can get it off or is the only way to try and tap the thread?

Get a puller is my suggestion..right tool for the job!!

Yikes. That will be difficult to remove if the threads are completely gone. You may have to pry, which I don't recommend.

Can we assume the proper puller utilizes the threads you are talking about? If you could post a detailed photo of the part it would help towards giving you some advice as I don’t know your ride, but I can tell you that you might mess up the part and maybe even your cases if you try pulling it off from the outside.

Take it to a machine shop, have them take it off and then have them re-tap the threads.....it may be costly. Next time try a flywheel puller. Its only 11 bucks. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure....Thanks Ben Franklin!

Flywheel pullers have the same threads as the front axle. The bolt or puller just push against the crank, pulling on the flywheel. If the threads are stripped, a real puller wont help anything.
I can't see how you could get it off because theres not much room between the case and flywheel...
You might wanna try to thread a bolt, same thread pitch as axle bolt just shorter, and hit it the bolt with awhile pulling with you other hand on the flywheel.

He doesn't need a flywheel puller for this type of flywheel. I am not familiar with that motor; I don't know what the thread pitch was but if it had to be forced at all, maybe someone jammed the wrong bolt in there before.
You may be able to use a "bottomin tap" which obviously chases threads to the bottom rather than a standard tap where the first few threads do nothing.
I'm not sure if you can get a puller behind it and a plate/spacer over the flywheel to protect the threads.
ALWAYS put oil on threads when using a puller or pusher......

Sorted, I got hold of a 14mm tap and a 14mm bolt. Re cut the thread and used the short bolt instead of front axle bolt.
A shorter bolt is much better to handle, I still battled a bit with this one but then I shocked the socket wrench with a
