I took the cover off my 185 years ago with no ill effects and the same chain for many, many years. DID,EK, RK all make a o ring chain, I run an x ring on my shee and raptor and they are both holding up well. I learned to replace sprockets and chains at the same time and they last twice as long. piecing and parting only wears them in reality alot faster.

Thats why you fork out 30$ for the Egay case saver guard and run a good PRM skidplate; Many of them require the mounts to be rebuilt and thicker steel.

Do as you wish but if that is on a 250R motor, I would have it adjusted and with all the safe guards I could........ The make doesn't matter, you should always have a "case saver".

You wouldn't ask if the thought of it was in your mind so spend the time and bucks (if it's a keeper) or just wing it until it jams up and destroys your 2 chain guards.

This is why we no longer can get a left side case; PLAIN AND SIMPLE!!!!

$20 for a case saver IMO most of the time with a broken chain will save you! My motor sitting there was $3200 If I thru a chain the left side would be ruined and all the labor, powder coating and another $150 in shipping gone for sure.

I have been debating on whether or not to reinstall the chain cover on my 70, I am leaning towards leaving it off.

I run all the chain guards on my 185s ,only becouse its very oe, but on the other bikes that came with enclosed chains I run only the inner guard , on the sport trikes they did not come with enclosed gaurds , skidplate and small guard over the front sprocket only . casesavers are good on any model

i usually get sticks and tree limbs jammed in my guard and it will literally stop my bike in its tracks. its a safety feature that i like for the younger crowd, but i like to see my chain and not have stuff clogging up in my chain that i cant see
