    klt 160 problems in water

Took a trip down by the river this weekend and drove my 85 KLT 160 into a deep hole. Water came up to about the gas tank. The intake was above the water but the exhaust wasn't. It finally died before I could get it out. I think some water got into the exhaust. It wouldn't start so we pulled it for a while. It kept trying to start, but wouldn't stay running. I finally got it to run on full choke but everytime I gave it throttle, it would die. I let it run at idle for a while and it eventually ran fine like before. Any ideas on what went wrong, besides driving into the hole? Anything I can do to prevent water issues again?

tips on how to "Prevent water issues again" would be to avoid driving into deep holes. filled with water. also probably avoid going really deep, im sure KLT's like the rest of our trikes are not amphibious lol

that said, i cant count how many hours i spent in riding in the rain, riding in creeks, and crossing shallow lakes on my 85 250sx lol

I know my intake was above the water. I was thinking it was something electrical. I wasn't sure if there were any tricks to waterproof things to help in the future.

to help waterproof electrical apply dielectric grease on connections. However this won't completely prevent water shorts. Make sure you check your oil as if it is creamed from the water it will cause issues with starting and running.
