What year X and what shape is it in? Is all that is wrong with the R a stator? The X is a reliable machine but the R is a lot faster. Depends on the type of riding you do but I would seriously consider it, but do your homework first!

The x is a 85 with cobra pipe and k n filter and not bad shape at all. The 250r has good compression but is missing the stator. Are the stators hard to find?

na stators shouldnt be hard to find. as one of the other members said before is all depends on your riding. if you want to go fast then switch over to the 250r. i have them both and it a totally different ride. but honestly i think a 250r is worth more so youd be winning in that sense. a stator should be easy to find and not too expensive, but is that all thats wrong with it? 250r could have more serious problems involved, being thats its an 84 i dont think that year they made it liquid cooled so you would have to worry about a crack in the radiator.

If the r only needs a stator then you will be way ahead price wise as a 250r is worth way more and are alot more of a machine, but they also have more maintanance involved and you have to mix your gas, so if your up for it go for it, but be prepared to hold on tight lol

one of our 250r's also needed a new stator, curious if the one you speak of partially broke and doesnt fully work? or is it just missing..

Go for the 250r and never ever get rid of it.

personally, i would stick with the X, cause i do more trail ridin than racin around. its all up to you. 250r will do better in sand, but not as good as the X on trails. do some more research before you do the trade!

'84 will be air cooled. Simple machines, not that complicated at all, and pretty quick. I'd be all over trading a first gen X for an R, the only way I'd really consider otherwise is if I did heavy trail riding(plug foulin' territory) or the X was a second gen.
This is my trike. There are many like it but this one is mine. My trike is my best friend, and it is my life. I must master it as I must master myself. My trike without me is useless. Without my trike, I am useless. I must ride my trike true. My trike and I know that what counts is not the amount of miles we ride, but the time we ride together. My trike is human in it's own ways, therefore I will learn it as my brother. I will learn it's weaknesses, it's strengths, it's parts, and it's soul.

IMO the R would be more fun than the X if you typically rode in mainly open/hilly spaces. I also agree with whoever said they'd be all over it, id be too. And don't hold me too it but cleaned up it might also bring in more money if you ever needed/wanted to sell it
