seeking info: old southern CA residents maybe...
im seeking some info:
this info would probably come from someone who is 70+ years of age, or a child of someone who is 70+ years of age
the info im seeking is about a VERY old club that existed in what now is the Split Mountain area of Ocotillo Wells, Ca.
the club's name was the Dune Dodgers and they had a clubhouse in what is now the shooting range area near the gypsum mine on the other side of the railroad tracks. the club existed in the late 50s until maybe the late 60s. the club of "duners" were the first generation of buggy builders. this is where the old water pumpers and air cooled rails originated.
my grandparents were members of this club and from what stories theyve told me there was a purchase of land involved and a torching of the clubhouse. any old timers out there that may have known about this club, please chime in
when i was a kid, my family would camp in this same area and remnants of the roof and side paneling were still to be found.
