Does anyone know if it is safe to deglaze a plated cylinder? Just to get the x marks so the rings will seat? Its a '87 KXT 250 cylinder.

If I'm not mistaken you have to have those cylinders re-plated (electrofusion plating or something like that). It's not cheep either and it's hard to find places that can do it also.

You don't hone a plated cylinder anyways, great to know that his company cares
You'll take the plating off with a hone. 86-87 tecates came stock with nikasil plated cylinders. The idea is that the bore is so resistant to wear, the aluminum piston will take all the abuse. When its time to rebuild, clean the cylinder carefully with fine steel wool and pop in a new standard bore piston. No boring or honing. You wont need to worry about this with your 84

You must have a serious hone if you are worried about removing nikasil.
