Will Red Coat fix a leaky pinch weld on a gas tank and will it last? The tank is already painted so I don't want to weld on it.

I coated a tank 5+ years ago that had a 1/8 hole in it. I put tape over the hole and red-Koted the tank. 5+ years later the Tank is still holding and has never dripped a drop. AWESOME stuff!!!

MarineTex works great for holes..a little hard to get in there, but it will atlast the tank itself..
could put a spot of labmetal on there and then red coat it and just put a little touch up paint on it

I can attest to Red-kote, the stuff works great. I know most things like this say to use outside or in a well ventalated area, but definitly use it outside... it is some POTENT stuff!!!! Just make sure your tank is clean of any loose stuff (if its rusted) and it has to be BONE dry.

Yep it does. I rinse all tanks with some ascetone and then blow some dry air in there for 20-30 minutes. The ascetone vaporizes quickly and leaves no residue, this allows for GREAT results when coating. And yes the stuff is VERY POTENT!!! NEVER use it in a closed area. I don't do tanks in weather colder than 65-70 degrees because I am outside doing them.

will have to agree, used it on my 70 tank. tank was so shot i didn't even bother to clean it, both lower edges was like swiss cheese. figured it'd either work or not. my buddy had a little left from when he did his all of his tanks over 2 years ago. smoothed some JBweld on the big holes, painted, then sealed with +2 year old Red-kote. 1 month later and so far still holding.![]()

You might be strong as an ox, but without a cart you are just a big dumb animal.
I got a can of red coat and the directions said that to not put race gas after red coat is applied. I called them and they said the lead in race gas will mess it up. Has anyone ever put race gas in a tank that was treated with red coat? What is a tank sealer that will hold up to race gas?
