    Tecate dies when warmed up?

I gotta 84 tecate that starts real good and runs good but after about 10 mins of riding it will just die. i let it sit and it will start no prob. I think it is a float prob as i have clear gas lin and it doesnt seem to be flowing through. only happens when i let off gas never at wot. carb is stock has dg exhaust and pod filter. I have a keihn pj flatslide that i would like to install but not sure what cable to use to do this with. stock cable doesnt fit? also how does one know if you got your float adjusted correctly just bend tap till gas come out of overflow then bend back little at a time till it stop flowing out of over flow?

find the factory settings and use a feeler to figure the float issue out. they are problay set to low. you can try to just bend the tab a little and see if it helps then you know. but it could also be the cdi or stator since they will make it die when they warm up.

A couple other ideas would be the vent in the fuel tank cap. Make sure its clear, blow it out with compressed air. If its clogged, the fuel wont flow through the line. Other likely cause would be the coil. Most of the time when a bad coil gets warm, it will not produce spark, or not enough to run properly. Im thinking it wouldnt be a fuel level issue at the float, as it would either run funny all the time, run out the overflow, or run out of gas at WOT.

Having ridden with similar issues like dying when hot, my guess is weak stator or electrical problem. What? On a Tecate? Go figure....

x2 of what nd4speed said. I've been down that road as well. It's not completely impossible for it to be the coil, but I highly doubt it.

The thing that sticks out to me is you say the fuel line is empty when it dies. as said before make sure the vent on the gas cap is clear an the petcock is clear. I have had a couple petcocks that were oxidized badly and partially block the flow. to eliminate or confirm the stator download the service manual and test it per the manual.

yea the petcock is clear as is the vent line. I do have a rebuild stator laying around that i could toss in there. compression is real strong and always starts on first or second kick. only dies when i am coming to a stop and rpms go down. like i said earlier though shouldnt gas line be full most of time. I have never really paid much attn to the line until it started dying. gonna adjust float today. if that doesnt help gonna throw in rebuilt stator. again any ideas on what cable to use on a keihn pj carb stock tecate one doesnt work? I would like to run this carb anyway rather than stock since they are suppose to give better throttle response.

More than likely the (POS) Tecate, has an ignition part that fails once warmed up........

    Sorry to brutal!

Sorry to bring this back from the dead, but as a new tecate owner i would like to know what dirtcrasher meant by POS?! : ) back to topic... My tecate shut offon me a couple times after warm. What would be the suggested fix? Is the ricky stator a viable option? Can a cdi from a tri z work?
