    race fuel

This may sound stupid but I hear of a lot of people running race fuel in there trikes and quads around here. Now some are stock and some are modded. Is there any real benefit from it. I have a stock 200x I was thinking of trying it if it actually has a performance gain if not then I won't. I've also know some people who run alcohol and race fuel.

If you wanted to run 100 octane race fuel you might feel a little difference but at stock compression 93 is just fine . The difference is 10.00 a gal for race fuel and 3.50 For pump gas

To get the most HP out of any motor you should run the LEAST amount of octane that your motor will accept.

If you run high octane fuel in a low compression motor (stock 200x) it will hurt you performance wise.

Your stock 200x should run fine on 87. My 13.5-1 big bore YZR444 runs fine on 93, if it would ever ping then I will start mixing in some race fule with my 93.

Most people I know just run non-ethanol gas at 93 octane.

This is for all small engines. ATV's, outboard motors, lawn mowers, chainsaws, weed whackers... Etc.

Small engines, especially older ones were not designed to have ethanol in them. Often producing poor performance.

I wholeheartedly agree!!! If more HP was as easy as just dumping higher octane fuel in the tank then what would be the point of engine mods??

I can't tell you how many people I have encountered over the years that tell me "yeah, I put some 110 oct in my ----- (fill in the blank) and I could really feel the difference".... And I'm like, "no...you didn't". Then I have to explain the whole science of compression and ignition timing as it relates to the minimum octane fuel needed.

You just saved me 10 minutes of typing!

FYI Everyone: If you need more octane you can just add Toluene to whatever you have. I know a guy that runs 25% (I’ve heard of 30%) but it seems 20% is very safe, but as SWINGIN says, it will NOT add power. Only an oxygen carrying fuel like Nitro, or NOS can add power.

Unfurtunately we can't get non ethanol gas. Anyone ever try the additives that counteracts the ethanol.

ran 115oct in one of my trucks once (1/4tank of 115oct mixed with 3/4 tank of 93oct) the only thing i noticed was after 5mins of WOT the temp was in the red and took 15-20 mins to cool down back to normal. there was no other differance that i could tell. only did it because it was given to me and i got curious one night.

Another benifit to living in Mexico. We use all the corn for tortillas (yummy!), so our gas remains pure and free of that crud.

Yea that mixing and matching of fuels is often best left to the NASA guys.

I have had good luck with Stabil Marine or Startron with my non-race fuel burning toys. I tend to mix it a little hotter than the directions say just for good measure.

Yes, ethanol alone is. But when mixed with gasoline it falls out of suspension rather quickly if not used up and attracts moisture. That issue is the double death with a premix running 2-stroker..
