DG Nationsal 2-stroke pipe, Normal or a Lemon?

Just got one and theres these wierd scratches and blemishes in the coating. Is this how they come new? or did i get a lemon? i got it off ebay and in the description words of "like new, prestine, no scratches" were used. i contacted the seller with my concerns and he said thats how it came when he bought it new for around 200. if i paid 200 and got this i'd be through the roof! Anybody have these? thanks

use wd-40 and fine steel wool on it then run it till it gets warm, repeat a few times and you will have a nice caramel color again

its more like rust, you can click the pics to really see it. the last pic shows the blemish i was talking about, thats more like a coating drip. what did you use to polish it out?

Also can anyone say weather or not this is "factory" finish, i cant imagine DG shipping a final product in this shape

that's just a steel pipe raw// you will see the manufacture's marks on the steel.. yes it has been ran and they coated it with oil and ran it .. it gives it that gold color..and protect's it from rusting.. I myself .. go with the extreme Nickel plated. blast it and have it chromed, ceramic coated, Nickel plated,Paint it with high temp.. but in raw you will see them marks..

I actually really like the color thats why i went w/ it over the plated pipes. I know you see the weld marks and such but i was more talking about the little almost spider crack looking things. Thanks for the info guys btw

The coating drip is from dg. they coat there raw pipes with chain wax to keep them from rusting on the shelf. If you run it the way it is it will get a nice patina on it,if you strip it it and sand it to get rid of the die mark it will rust in a ferw hours if you don't recoat it with chain wax or paint, ect...

The pipe that came on my Z is identical to that one. See photo of the 85-1/2 Z. I thought it was a coat of varnish the owner put on until I read this post as it looks like there is rust under the coating, looks like heck. What was more concerning to me was the massive flange/ring that fits over the cylinder snout/spigot as it is way oversized in comparison. The previous owner had some large O-rings in there, but there was still oil all over the place. The new nickel plated DG pipe I bought has a nice fit as the flange/ring is shorter and smaller in diameter. There is a guy selling 4 stroke style crush gaskets on eBay that fit perfectly into the newer style pipe snout and snug up nice when installed. To make sure it didn’t leak I added a third spring and siliconed the snout/spigot before I installed the pipe. Worked great, but there seems to be a pin hole in one of the welds on the header pipe that drips oil on to the portion above it and I don’t really want to weld my shiny pipe. Anyway, you might want to check that flange for fitment and if need be modify that before you use it. Just remember that if it is too long you can’t just cut it down, or the pipe will hit your frame. If you do make changes please post the process.
