Maybe you can try the search key for the correct jet numbers.
I'll try to find a 185 carb and see what jets are in it but it may take a couple days.
I bet someone will post jet numbers for you soon.
A high idle may also be an air leak.
See if the idle changes if you spray around the carb and mounts
and gaskets with carb cleaner.
Make sure the main needle is also not flopping around.
Those may have a 'w' clip that can flip over and allow the needle to float around.
Stock Main jet is #95 I can't find the slow jet # sorry, Air screw 2 turns out. The needle in the slide the clip is 2nd down. Here is the manual http://www.oscarmayer.net/atc/manuals/ good luck.
Check the idle screw turn it out but count how many turns out you go that might be it. also if your having a problem when your driving it and let off the gas but it keeps going a little then dies down its to high, But that might not be whats its doing I'm just saying it. Good luck.
i have turned idle screw all the way out and down. it will even not die with the kill switch right always. it takes a little time to die.forget riding it goes almost five mph in low without pushing the throttle. does anyone know if the jet off a 200x are too big for 185 s? they fit in but that does not mean this is right.
I think the really wrong jet would make it run lousy more than too fast.
It's not uncommon for the carb cable cap to fit in more than one way.
does the throttle feel normal and snap back when you let go?
It may not be bottoming out all the way.
they can also vacuum leak thru the throttle cable rubber sleeve
worst case is those carbs are avail everywhere for under 30$
and take 5 minutes to change.
Be glad it's not a keihin QA01 on an 85
that was what i was thinking about doing getting a new carb. they r priced good which brand should i buy? i realy did not want to take back apart for the 50 th time did not what to take it apart and put back together and still did not work right. it might not even when i get the new carb. hopes r up. thanks to every for the help
A while back I rebuilt an 81 185S and put a 30.00 aftermarket carb on it. It started on the 2nd pull and is still running like a sewing machine. Some have had not so good luck with the aftermarket carbs but not in my case. I also put one of those carbs on a neighbors 185 and it too liked it. the only thing I carried over from the old carb was the slide spring. The one in the new carb was very stiff and wore my thumb out in short order. The stock slide spring made it all better.
Oh, search ebay motors for atc 185s carb and you will find them.
on my 185s i took a carb off a 200 big red and in starts up first pull
Do you know the name of where you bought the carb or what the name of the carb is? The name is on the slide tube. I bought some other ones for my 200x, was not happy with them. Just curious as to what you bought.
Check your carb slide could be in backward. Also check the throttlecable to see if its frayed or pinched some where.
