1984 200s gas tank repair or alternative?

    Hello everyone,
I just picked up a 200s for free. I cleaned it up, freed up the rear brake, tubed the tires, put in a new spark plug, fresh oil, fresh gas, cleaned the air filter and installed a new pull start rope. I got it running last night, starts on the first pull. I used an old gear oil bottle as a make-shift fuel tank. It appears that the previous owner used resin on the outside to fix some rusted holes on the lower sides of the gas tank. I am nervous to use the original gas tank because of this. Is resin safe to seal a gas tank? will the gas dissolve it and then gum up the carb?

You could always coat the inside of the tank. I cant remember the product but it was muratic acid to clean then a white coating after that. I did a rusted 88 Yamaha 750 thumper and never had another problem with it, till i put into the side of a pickup and breaking my hip. Another story.....
