Anyone buy those cheap Aero Trak tires from ebay for an ATC70?

This guy lists one pair at a time and keeps relisting once they sell. Shipping for the pair is $20 and he starts the bid at $10. I always bid $18 on every auction. I finally got a pair for $17.50 plus $20 shipping. You can't complain about $18.75 per tire shipped for a ATC70! I guess I didn't really NEED them. I picked up this 1979 ATC70 cheap and it needed tires. Once my xowner ATC70 aluminum wheels come in I planned on putting the wheels and tires that they will replace on this 79.
    Heres the 2 I got. http://www.ebay.com/itm/350578770199...84.m1497.l2649
They look pretty deformed in the pics. Mine were probably even more deformed that that. They were really smashed down for shipping. I did the ratchet strap around the outside trick and put them together tubless with used o-rings. The beads seated right up. I'm very happy with them. They even held the deformed shape after I mounted on the bike but they returned to round after riding for awhile. Has anyone else used these? Or if anyone is looking for cheap ATC70 tires I highly recommend them.

I bought some trail hawk tires on EBay that were about the same price (65$ shipped for 3) and just as deformed. I had to use a ratchet strap as well. They have a pretty aggressive directional thread. They have held air for a month so far.

The ratchet strap trick is to help seat beads without stretching the tire. You get it started with a little bit of air in it and then put a ratchet strap around the tread part of the tire and pump it up until the beads seat.

I don't think I could buy those tires, the way they look. I've bought a lot of tires that looked just like that when I opened the box, but they didn't look like that in the picture!

That place is only 45 minutes from me, and I have been there before. I might have to call them and see what they will do if I picked up a bunch of them.

I know what you mean but I was willing to give them a try to save some money and it worked out great. Other people people left positive feed back on them so I figured I should be ok.

Wow, those are super cheap! I really like to stick with knobbies on my ATC70s and I should have enough tires now. I'm still debating though. I told a buddy of mine and he is going to buy some.

When they ship and smash the tires like that, alot of times they are permanetly deformed even after they are aired up. Trust me, I had 2 of them and I mounted one of them and it always had a high side to it. I ran it on the front, and it was ok, but you could tell it was deformed.Even after a year or so, it still was deformed some.
The other one I never mounted because of that.

My brother was going to order those tires from BMI. Its $40 for 5 but then theres $36 shipping. Still not bad but at nearly doubling the price we are going to stick with the knobbies. Howdy, if you can pick them up in person that would make them a great deal.

Are you saying you had ATC70 Aero Track tires that were deformed or was it another tire? The ones I just mounted on the 70 have been mounted for 3 days and I have about half an hour of ride time on them. If you really look at them you can see a slightly deformed portion but its very small and I doubt anyone would notice and you can't tell while riding. I can see where this could be an issue on other / larger machines. I would still recommend these and I might even buy more if I can get them even cheaper than this set.

Yeah another brand. The ones I have may be thicker, or more rigid and that is why they never worked out straight. I checked his feedback and there were some neutral/neg about deformation problems.
Yeah they will work for a 70 rider and for the price It is a good deal. I dont know if I would expect people to want them for really clean builds though. Anytime I see tires smashed like that for sale, I just keep on going. It is a shame it is so costly to ship stuff anymore, and people would not do that stuff. Someone just got a trashed set of new fenders because someone tried to save money by wrapping them in plastic and looks like they got used for a road sled.

Yeah these tires are pretty thin, I think thats why they dont look too bad anymore. I checked the feed back and saw that as well. I paid $200 for this 1979 and a 1980 and also runs but has a transmission problem. I thought these tires were great for that.
And I know what you mean about using them on a nice build though. Ohtsu's would be my choice there.
And yeah shipping is getting just crazy. I have a 4.5 rating on ebay as far as my shipping cost, not horrible but still lower than most. Funny part is I almost loose money on shipping every time. I just guess my shipping amounts. I'll get $10 from the buyer on shipping then I pay $15 to ship it, then the buyer says $10 was too much. lol. I try to do free shipping (to get automatic 5 star rating) when I can and just increase the price of part but it doesn't seem like that works as well. I'll try selling something 5 times for $50 with free shipping with no luck. But if I change that to $35 with $15 shipping then I have several people interested. And does anyone really care about that rating anyway? I know I don't. I leave 5 star on the shipping almost every time just because I know how it is.

I just got 4 of these tires from the same seller for 89.90 . I wish I had seen the listing you linked before I bought them. They now show a perfectly good tire and say that they will be compressed to save on shipping. They clearly were put in a compactor and bailed up way before they ever got them. I'm sure they didnt pay more than 2-3 bucks a piece for those tires. These are not compressed for shipping! they have been compressed for quite a long time, long enough that stress from bending the rubber has permanently discolored the tires. I have had 25lbs in one for two days and it still looks like sloth's head. New tires cheap? yes would I buy them again? no.

I have had tires that were baled and shipped to me before. I took tubes and inflated them off rims for a few days in a warm area. They were fine once I removed the tubes. These tires might be different, but who knows.
