Sell it a buy a 350X or 250R. Seriously. That's the biggest bang for the buck.

I had 2 84 200Xs I put a lot of work in and they were nice. No engine work (well other than the Lifan swap on one). They were fun until I got the 350X up and running.

I sold the 200Xs last month... they weren't getting ridden. One had not even moved from storage for 6 months.

I had close to $1000 in each of the 200Xs. Bearings, plastics, chains, tanks.., it adds up. I lost money on them when I sold them and I thought I got great $$ for them.

I have about $1700 in the 350X. I'm no expert, but you probably can't touch 350X power with $700 in your 200X.

If you 200X is nice and you're patient, you can get $800 for it. You can buy a decent 350X for $1500-$2000. An 83/84 250R a little less, an 85/86 250R about the same.

A pipe for a 200X will cost $150-$200 and make more noise but not enough power to notice. To really make more power, you need to take it apart, port the head, bigger carb, more compression, etc. That will eat up a good chunk of $1000.

I have both an 85 350X and and 85 250R. The X is tired and smokes like a train and the R will walk away from it. I remember, 25 years ago, when both were fresh (not these trikes specifically but Rs an Xs we had back in the day), they were neck and neck.

IMO, for trail and play riding, the X is better.

The R demands more of me. I should not ride the R when I'm tired. The X, just gas and go. In the wrong gear? No such thing on the X but the R is picky about it

That said, in the dunes, I'll take my R everytime.

Nice to have choices! I can't wait to get my 2nd X up and going.
