chain snapped. It didnt damage anything except this case but i noticed very small amount of oil right below the sprocket. Could that be coming from the seal around the sprocket it self? there is not enough oil to have a constent drip coming from it. You can only see a drip forming if you ride for about an hour or so.

Are you talking about the front or rear sprocket? I'm assuming the front because the rear carrier only holds grease if I'm not mistaken. If you have fresh oil dripping from the front, you might want to clean up the area good and look for a hairline crack in your case, or a spot where it's worn through.

Yeah I had a rock get wedged between the case and my sprocket on my X at Trikfest, I got it back to camp and torn into it and found a huge hole in the case. Look closely before you ride it again.

Lack of maintance is what caused this issue. If the chain was looked at properly, this could have been avoided. Im not trying to be an a-hole, but I hate to see this happen on a 3 wheeler, even if it isnt mine.

i just replaced the axle 2 weeks ago... and the chain was fine with little wear and was a o-ring chain. i always grease and check the chains every weekend.
And thats why i wish this was shaft drive lol

Man that sucks Bro.. If the case doesn't have any crack or chunks missing from the chain break i would suspect your oil seal is bad since it takes a while to form a drip there. Isn't too hard to replace with a seal puller and a large socket to drive the new one in straight, just remember to grease the new seal up good and clean the shaft before slipping it over, if you so much as scratch the new seal you will get a leak again.

That chain really hooked and pulled the heck out of that shield. I have seen them jump chains before, even when the chain looks perfect and the tension seems good, they stretch a bit under load and heat up a bit and that gives them just enough slop to jump off. I had that happen a few times on a past trike of mine, i told myself if i ever bought another one i would get shaft drive only, and i did!

What you have to do to fix it all up? Find the oil leak?

its the seal... and i dont plan on fixing it since the high low thing will be too much of a pain. i just replaced the chain with a DID o ring and replaced the inside cover
