replaced choke cable and cleaned carb on 250x. runs like crap now

ran great before i thoroughly cleaned the carb and replaced the choke cable on my 85 250x. if i pin it, it bogs out bad and is now difficult to start. i'm thinking it's getting too much fuel. if pulling the carb off of this wasn't such a pain in the butt i'd just do it and make adjustments but it's a nightmare. I do notice that the vent tubes have fallen off. I dont think they are that important but there are like 3 that all connect together. Any ideas?

You probably dislodged some micro-crap when you cleaned it. If you didn't completely disassemble, clean and blow out ALL the little passages this will happen. You can try to reconnect the hoses and see what happens, but I think you will be removeing the carb again. Don't worry though, it does get easier to do the more times you do it (Practice makes Perfect).
    Good luck!

i definitely did a full disassemble, a good soak in the ol chem dip bucket, sprayed every part with carb cleaner and then blew it all out with compressed. ::sigh:: is there any easy way to get the carb off??? do the vent tubes make any difference? i don't understand their role. thanks!

You guys and your ES/SX carbs kickin yo butts!!!!!!!! First of all, taking the carb out can be a major hassle. Remove the choke cable. Remove the plastic cable cover Stand on the right side of the trike. Take the carb loose at the boot. Turn the carb 90deg CW so the intake is facing the right side of the trike. Lift it up through the hole wiggling it as you go. It will come out easily.

Now, take your carb apart again. Pull out all the jets. On the 85, the startup jet is pressed in. It take a #4 sheetmetal screw screwed in to the jet about 1/2 turn. Place a screwdriver shank up against the screw with it sitting on the jet stack. Use a flat blad screwdriver up under the head of the screw and gently pry it up. It will come out. Take that carb completely apart again including the slide. Shoot carb cleaner through any and all holes in the carb. Every hole comes out somewhere. Now, take the jets and hold them up to the light. You should be able to see light through the holes. Better yet, buy a carb kit and replace the jets and gaskets. In any case, be sure all the jets are clear. Put it back together. On the pilot screw, its very important to get the order right. Pilot screw, spring, small flat washer, oring. Remember you never put the oring up against the spring as the spring will tear up the oring. Having the vent tubes off effects nothing.

I've rebuilt a ton of these carbs. Last weekend I rebuilt 2 85 carbs and 1 86 carb and one of them had to have the pilot screw turned in 1 turn to get it to run right. I have 3 freshly rebuilt carbs that I installed on one of my SXs and their operation checked. If they don't work right, I tear them apart until they do work right or they go in the trash. If you're interested, I'll sell you a freshly rebuilt carb for 85.00 with exchange. I usually spend a couple of hours going through these carbs. The bodies are bead blasted, screws and top plate are replated or replaced, 85s have the cold start mod done to them, and they have a rebuild kit in them. Guaranted to work right.

Anyway, the offer is there if you hit a wall. Let me know how you make out.
