82 200e big red rear axle pop

I recently got a 82 200e that had been sitting inside a shed for a few years. it runs perfect except for when i push it backwards,out of gear, some thing pops and shakes the engine. i took the chain guard off and rolled it, im pretty sure it is the chain moving up on the sprocket and popping in to place. ive tightened the chain a few times still happens. Also the people i got it from,best neighbors inn the world they gave it to me for free, said the chain keep getting loose. First time i stared it and tried to drive it the chain would just slip over the back sprocket so the sprocket is in fair to rough shape. Please help this me.

There should be some bolts on the carrier that will allow you to tighten the chain.
